I was at a junkyard in Blacksburg , VA yesterday , and a few weeks ago , they brought in this '57 150 2 dr. sedan , I tried to buy this car , but , they wouldn't sell it to me , They told me that "American Pickers" were coming to the yard to look at it to possibly buy it for "Rick" from "Pawn Stars" so , the car was off limits. When I showed up , yesterday , the car was still there , I asked if those guys ever showed up , and they showed me some pictures of them standing with the owner at the junkyard. Supposedly , these guys didn't want it because they had already bought one , but they wanted to lok at it anyway , The guy that owned the yard said that they "really didn't want to pay much for anything" so , he told me if I wanted the car for what I offered , I could have it , to make a long story short , My car is supposed to be on American Pickers some time in November , I think this car has a little bit of racing history , due to the way the rearend is set up , it has brackets welded to the frame just under the doors , with a adjustable traction bar setup and coils over the shocks , it has been hacked up in the floor for a 4 speed(which he sold between the times of me looking at the car) , and some old stickers on the rear windows crane cams , etc , but one which had been pulled off , but you can still read the glue from the sticker says somthing about altered , wit hte pic of a cartoon hot rod doing a burnout and at the bottom says soething about chatanooga , tenn. is there an old dragstrip in Chatanooga? ,Anyone know anything about this car from around that way? check out the last pic , a damn snake skin that lays from one end of the rear gl*** to the other , found another under the extra hood inside the car....made me damn near piss myself... anyway , here's the pics....
SWEET....dam pickers , i guess there was'nt no meat left on the bone. Good score. Keep us posted. "AND THE BOWTIE ROLLS ON"
Well , I'm thinkin' about flippin' the car , there was a little meat left , lets hope I can flip it to help with my project '57 Belair wagon....
They ended up getting one in Arizona for around 6500 if I remember right, it wasnt in very good shape. The show already has come and gone but I dont recall this car, not to say they wont have another episode.
When I saw how much they spent on restoring it I about fell on the floor! I have seen several just like it for sale nearly half that price! Must be nice to have that much dough to throw around!
The one thing I remember watching the show was Rick said "I want it done old school NASCAR style like they use to run at drag strips"? What a dumb ***, maybe that's why he paid 80K, doesn't know his know his **** from a hole in the wall when it comes to cars.
Seems like that show was about a month ago . If I remember right it was done for the old guy on Pawn Stars.Even had that guy from Restorations reality show on there ,all the American Pickers did was find the car for them. Another one of those look,we did this total restorarion in a week deals. I just hope they market the new Kings of Customs show right so we can actually have something real to watch. All the producers of these reality shows are to stupid to notice that the first 4 letters of reality spell Real because 99% of their shows are ********.
Man, that car they used on the show sure looked like it was **** compared to this one you got..... Good find, and now just sell a bit more of that good Ol' WV Moonshine and pay the $80 grand to re do it !!! Cheers.....
No, not yet , I just thought the story was kinda neat , I'll problably post it in a day or so , after I clean it up a little inside , see what I really bought...
When you say Chatanooga Tenn the first thing to come to mind is Honest Charlies. A huge mail order hotrod parts supplier. An Honest Charlie decal was as common as an STP decal at one time in the past and probably not very relevant to the history of your car. I remember buying a 41 Ford in the 70s with one of his decals on it and I though it was so cool. He had several different ones over the years.
A friend of my Dad's and his brother got "picked" (poked ) by Mike and Frank this summer. They new them before they were famous, as a couple swap meet hounds. Anyway, they were told they HAD to sell them at least an item or 2. Also during the course of the pick, they found out they each make around $150k PER EPISODE!! Plus the profit they make on their picks!!!
I don't know if you can make it out or not , but , here's what's left of the sticker on the p***. side rear gl*** , it says sumthin bout "jones" , and "Powered" , and at the very bottom , you can see chatanooga , tenn. , on the other side , you can see in the upperleft corner of the sticker a pic of some cartoon character with a flat top haircut and a grimmace on his face...
Interestng score. I think those decals came with every order you got from Honest Charley back in the early 60's.
I owned 30 '57 Chevys all at one time (1966-'70)...and a ****load of parts on top of my flat roof garage (and still own one '57 Chevy yet today). But that was back when I could pick up any '57 Chevy for $200.00 or less...here's one I owned back in 1967... A "g***er" for the street...!!! What goes around comes around...!!! You can read about my '57 Chevys in my first book...and most of the '60's too...yes, I was there...and I remember it very well. R-
There was a '57 150 that I used to see on the roads regularly in my hometown of Downey, CA. It was driven by an older couple and it appeared all stock right down to the dog dish hubcaps and bias ply tires. It still had the six and manual transmission. It was a faded blue color. I never noticed if it had a back seat or not. Weren't these cars considered utility cars?
They need to stick to bicyles and merry-go-round stuff. They **** at car deals. I was impressed that they came back to a seller and gave him half of the money they made pn some carnival stuff.
That's the one. It's just like a slightly more "modern" business coupe. A car like that can be a real sleeper in disguise. It looked just like this one except it was a lighter blue and had no "V" on the hood.
