wow - I don't know what to do now -- it's like someone will distroy your life . I've roadster - she's fully driveable - but over here in austria we have to drive to a car-inspection every year - but this year is nothing like the last years -- they made new rules -- and so it isn't possible to get a registration for her this year (hope I'll find a way next year - but it doesn't look good) -- so end of the story -- I can't drive it -- and I have the c-dan --- good driver till the tranny was distroyed last month -- the c-dan has a 273 engine and a 904 tranny in it - out of a 66 dodge dart--- but now the troubles are starting -- bought a 904 out of a challenger -- the result - the converter is different -- the old one doesn't fit the new 904 - and the new converter doesn't fit in the hole of the crank -- dilemma - I cutted the "nose" off of the converter and built a new, smaller one - welded it together -- but damn -- it don't work - very strong vibrations - grrrrrrrrrrr -- end of the story -- I have to get a new converter witch will fit a 904 tranny (it was behind a 318 ci) and my 273 -- that task is nearly unpossible over here --so I don't have a car for this summer -- and I don't have money for doing my 58 project good summer start uhhh
Sucks to be you buddy... Those EU laws and regulations are crazy.... seems like they try real hard to get as many old cars etc as possible off the roads.. whats up with the roadster bein as it wont pass the reg's??? Dont you guys have really tight emissions rules?? Sure you'll get some kinda ride sorted for the summer... Go steady n dont let the bastard beaurocrats grind ya down...maybe jus means y'all gotta drive n party twice as hard next yr..
What's the punishment for driving the roadster unreg'ed? Short of the death penalty or losing the car I'd drive the wheels off of it..... Brian
stupid laws!!!!! here in sweden we have it pretty good with registrations move here and you'll probally be having an much easier time to register your car and i'll buy you a couple of beers aswell
hmm -- what's wrong with the roadster? here's a pic of her -- for me nothing - but it isn't allowed to have no fenders, hood, runnung a NOT original drivetrain!! and so on -- never got realy big troubles with it - but since this year the "registration business" is conected together via computer - and so nobody like to help me out with a little smarter registration
Are cars registerable in one EU country driveable in another EU country? If they are go register it in another country, and take it bakc and drive the wheels off it. Surely someone from the HAMB could help you out. good luck
They are driveable in other countries but, i believe if a vehicle if 'transferred' from one EU country to another ,the vehicle has to be re-tested in the new location... so even if he got it tested n sorted in the UK/france for example, he would still have to get it approved in his own country.. I sold a buick to a guy from sweden that was fully approved by the vehicle licensing people and he had 6 months to re-register and re-test the car for a swedish plate...
Sorry I didn't make myself as clear as I thought. Don't transfer it - just drive the mother in your country after its been approved and registered in another country and if the feds hassle you - just say "I'm driving my friend from ........ (insert country Name) car as he is ............. (insert your own reason)"!
lol..ok cross wires... yeah i guess ya could do that.. but if its a daily ,and the cops see the car with foreign plates on alla time..how long before ya get pulled? also that'd mean you gotta set up insurance policy from where-ever... as i dont think that his insurance companies would insure a 'foreign' vehicle...that is supposedly only in the country while his buddy is visiting..etc.... theres gotta be some way around the legality or the reg he's having imposed.... how bout presenting another roadster at the test centre, but with his roadsters i.d tags on??? might work..
the ideas are good - but it wouldn't work - as said -- insurance, cops -- it's a fucking drama over here in austria right now -- the law says: it has to be original -- if it's not original they could take away your plates
That BLOWS!!! Scab some fenders and a hood on it, drop in a four banger... Get your tags... Switch it back... JOE
Ok so try this...get a BS letter printed out from the BS president of a BS Owners club to vouch that the car came with that ..hemi (insert powerplant here) in it originally... lol..thats worked for me before now.. most guys at test centres know shit about old cars..and if you can supply em with some official lookin piece of paperwork from the "Owners Club" they usually wont argue...mebbe print off some nice black n white pics of other people rides with the same motor in em, and use em as reference points on the owners club paperwork... sometimes this scam stops em hassling you too much..
alternatively i have some titles for 20/30s british cars.. re-register it...we can always doctor the titles so they say it comes with whatever motor ya want... seems like only sacrifice ya might have to make is running it full bodied.
I think full bodied isn't that easy at a model a on 32 frame, but I didn't have a thought about it -- think it wouldn't be easy to mount em on the pinched frame --- somebody did that???
That sucks.... Such a beautiful country, such shitty registration laws. I loved Austria when I went a couple years ago. There's nothing like some good wienerschnitzel and some raspberry jam. Couldn't you tell them your car was Hot-rodded before they changed the law over, and since you've registered it on the road before, you shouldn't have to change it back?
Hi Rainer, Living here in Hungary gives us the same problems with registering hot rods. It has scared almost everyone out of actually building one, because what good is a car if you cant drive the damn thing. Anyway i have heard of and seen guys using what they call here a P number plate. The skinny is that this is a dealer plate. So you are paying for the plate that can be used on any car. Insurance comes with the plate and the cops cant touch you. It is an expensive venture but if you want the car on the road then, over here at least, this is the only way i can see it happening right now. This may be an option for you in Austria, might be worth looking in to. One problem with the P plate is you cant take the car out of the country. I saw your car once when you brought it to Hungary for drag racing at the Raba ring. Nice ride. I bet it was the only hot rod in Hungary at the time. Good luck
Hey i hade the same problem when i shift my motor in my 66 fury, what i did was to grind up the hole in the crank insted, maybe you can try that?
there is a way around it.You have to export the car then re-import the car with the correct documents i.e reciept and uk v5 then the car will be road legal as it has been imported in that condition .As for the hood and fenders well put on temporary hood and fenders then take them off after the test ...........sorted...........Marq
This is what a socialist government will get you, and if we don't stand up for ourselves we'll have it spread here too.
WTF, I don't think the Austrians are Socialist at least not since '45 Move like this are more likley to be driven by big business in cahoots with their puppet political types, as the Oil/Motor Vehicle etc industry would much rather have you buying a new car every couple of years......why do you thing George is screwing the concessions for 0 emmisions vehicles up ?? wouldn't have anything to do with his and his cohorts connections to the OIL would it ??
Hey, if you need help finding a converter email me and I'll get you one for my cost plus shipping... let me know if you want it. I own a shop and can get good prices so it shouldn't be too expensive. --Bob
Move here!! You can sleep in my basement for free(if I can drive the roadster sometimes) Sorry to hear what they're doing to ya! The car is awesome
