Hey, brought a young buck out to a couple cruise nights and last weekend to big outdoor hotrod party. This fine young man is into driftcars and small trucks as well as custom rice burner kind of ratbikes. His family life is broken up and hes kind of a lost soul.Hes a friend of my son that just went away to school. Well last night he calls and said he just bought a 29 Ford 2dr sedan, unfinished project car, and had a million questions about how to get it going. He likes the open wheel style, traditional kind of car and he will be a welcome addition to the gang. Its his rig but with a guiding hand we hope to further help him see the light.Next is to get him to sign up on this here Hamb party!! Another mind saved from the scrapper! Almost brings a tear to my eye Fedco
Thats always cool to hear stories like that! I have a lot of younger friends who are into mini trucks and newer cars and a few of them changed sides and now are into hot rods and customs! Either way I still respect what their doing and some of the stuff their doing is unreal!
Hey man that's great! Nice to know there is someone that cares enough to look out for the young ones.
Haven't you heard??? In few more years, no-one is gonna want these old Fords... Ya, right! Glad to see you getting a young one to "get it". Thanks for bringing another one into the fold.
Alright man you've allready done enough damage to a young mind, what ever you do don't take him drag racing!!! LOL
Good going, Fedco. Whether you realize it or not, you're that kid's mentor now. It doesn't sound like you need advice but if you want it here is some: Be patient, be kind, and be encouraging. At some point he's likely to feel overwhelmed by the project. Either help him work through it or help him transition into something more complete. You can't win them all but it's always worth trying. Good luck! And get that kid on the HAMB asap - the feeling of finding a home is priceless.
The story moves on when I ride with him and his grandfather to maybe go pickup a A 2dr he has his eyes on.Gramps is a top notch restorer and has four very nice examples of his work he showed me. I am not patting myself on the back but its young bucks lucky day!!!This ah..car...was so badly put together as a form of roddent,I felt good insulting the person trying to rip this guy off.I really think the seller finally woke up and realized what HE had bought and now was trying to peddle it to said young buck. His grandpa was nicer but fully aggreed. We created the monster now we have to groom and feed it and not let it out of our sight!!Ha Ha The guys will all tell him to take his time and the right deal will come along.I,ve made some bludders ,but lucky for me someone was there to slap me,sometimes after the damage was done.Yup one at a time
It's great helping new people into Hot Rodding. Because you always get help in return. I try to do it whenever I can. It takes so little effort and the friends you make are forever. Sounds a little deep and meaningful but I haven't been proved wrong yet. CM
thats pretty cool man nice job. it is always nice when someone is there to help you along and make sure you dont make some of the same mistakes that they did.
good on you ! i was once a troubled soul myself and cars turned my life around and gave me a positive outlet ! now at 34 yrs old i always take time to talk to younger guys and gals at shows and answer their questions and visit with them , anyone who shows an interest instead of shrugging them off like most !
as a guy who crossed over from the "rice burner" "driftcar" "import scene". I have to say building traditional style rods and customs is WAY more fun and rewarding!!!!
