Adkins and Hardcastle did the same thing with their Stinger coupe. Douse the tires with gas and ignite as the car takes off. A cool trick.

Doug Cook from SWC was the tuner on the Maz. F.C....I suspect Doug influenced the Engle Cam....

That makes sense. I know Engle had a grind specifically dubbed after Keith Black himself. It also seems that Isky sort of fell by the wayside in terms of camshaft development as it pertains to fuel motor application from the mid 70's on. Didnt Cook serve as maintenance manager for Mazmanian fleet of garbarge trucks?

I did that once at Bowling Green.
The safety in our chute didn't have a big red flag to remind you it was there. We were busy and it was simply forgotten. I jumped out of the truck to snatch it out as the car was rolling toward the line for an early practice run.
Afterwards he told me up close and personal, " Boy....... after that car begins to stage...... you ain't nuthin' but another spectator. "
Lessons learned.......... Tom S. in Tn.

Arnie Behling, Irwindale, 1970. He drove this car briefly in 1970, qualified at Indy (one of four FC's to qualify in the 6's) but banged the blower on the burnout in FC elims.

  13. Another Jungle Larry hole shot. Unfortunately this one came to naught. The coupe was now owned by Emmit White, and he insisted that Gene lean on the motor hard. The 400" hemi blew all to hell before the lights, and could not continue the title defense. A sad night for us 554 fans, as the Cederquist brother's won the #1 spot by default, and the coupe would soon be sold to K&G and leave the west coast. :(

  14. August 3, 1963. History was made on this run. The blue coupe became the first ever fuel altered in the eights at 8.96 and 170.77. I was one of the fans that went wild! A much happier night for 554 fans.

Note that Native American drag racer Nelson Carter is taking selling billing to Imperial Kustoms. Nelson came out of no where when this car debuted in 1968. An era of weekly 8 and 16 car shows here in So-Cal, this high dollar state of the art machine won a lot. Mid 7's at 190 plus, it contended to be one of the first to crack 200. It was etched out of that title by Gene Snow's direct drive Charger and/or I think the Outta Sight Camaro.

The teams AA/FA effort dubbed Groundshaker Jr. seemed to get better plubicity. I suspect it was easier to make a mark in the fuel altered class than top fuel where you had on average 10-12 cars show up for a altered meet versus 20-30 fo the atypical top fuel show. Gary Read raced the altered as did Glenn Way. I suspect one or the other drove the fueler too. The terms Groundshaker was coined because the owners and crew were all in execess of being 6 foot tall.

Was this a former Bob Creitz car?
Not the same car I know but the paint scheme is close.

No it wasnt-not to my knowledge anyway. That style of graphic and the lines that make it was standard faire in the late 60's.

We had a Groundshaker AA/FD rail come to Australia in 1966 it was driven by Bill Demerest (spl ?) and ran against Bob Mayer when Mayer ran the first 200 mph pass at the Castlereagh Dragway in Sydney.
