Does anybody know of an application or a mfr's number for an air cleaner element that:

    1) is oval, oblong, or obround

    2) Not over 13 1/2" overall front to back; 6" -8' overall side to side.

    3) At least 10" inside front to back.

    4) Any height up to 4".

I'm having to fab an air cleaner to fit the 2 X 2 Edmunds on my 337 Lincoln Flatmotor. Carb spacing is not like any other 2 X 2 and I want to keep the generator in stock location. Parts store people don't have any info except application and I don't know any of them well enough to be allowed in the backroom andto open boxes until I find what I need.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Have you tried AutoZone or Discount Auto Parts ? All their air cleaners are out on the shelves in the stores here.Open boxes till you find one that serves the purpose .

Have a look at the air filter catalog at the parts store. In the back is a section which lists all with dimensions.

I had some of those "billet" cast aluminum oblong air filters, they use an element that's about the size you describe. Instead of paying big bucks for the correct oval element from the speed shops, I did some experimenting and discovered that the filter for a 1983 S-10 with the 2.8 V6 engine would work, if I "squashed" it to make it oval...since it was round. I ran that type of filter for years, no problem.

Modern cars run flat filters, so you need to find one for an older car (80s or older) and figure out what will fit. Walmart doesn't seem to have many round filters in stock like they used to, but that would be a good place to start. Or anywhere the filters are out where you can get at them.

In addition to finding an element that's the right size, you need to find one that at least some stores stock, or can get quickly.

I use a Ford ****** oval filter in the '50 Burb. Fits my Speedway finned oval cleaner well.

Cruise the junkyards some nice afternoon and look thru the imports and such. May also be able to use a round filter and conform it to fit.

K&N elements change shape pretty easy, this is a round 14" K&N that I fit to this lid and base we made.[IMG]

Try the factory TriPower Ford air cleaner. Not sure what years, but I always saw them at swap meets, and picked up a couple, that I have for use on my 55 Olds 3 x 2 set-up.
    Probably FE engines? 65-67?

Often with pictures. I'd check through the catalog (s) at the parts house first.
