I met a guy at the Englishown swap meet last year who seemd to do some decent chrome plating. I think his shop was in Irvington... "Bright"-something, I think. Anyone know the shop? Also open to any Jersey chrome shops that people have had good experience with. Thanks -B
I picked up a card at one of the Pennsylvania shows for: All Bright Metal Finishing Co,Newark,NJ 973-371-8060 www.allbrightmetal.com Maybe this could help? You might also look at Librandi's,located near the Harrisburg,PA airport. Thier stuff looked pretty nice at the shows. Their website is www.carchrome.com
I've used Bright Metal Finishing before. Expensive, and not worth it, if you ask me. Relatively inexpensive, and for "utility" chrome....Mara in Newark is pretty good. Keystone in Kenilworth for pretty cheap bumper work, better than the "Boyz" in any case. Won't repair pot metal, or do a great job on welded up stuff. Those jobs require an expensive shop.
That's exactly my reason for asking... I e-mailed bumper boyz cuz I have a couple of cores from a car I'm parting out. I could exchange at Englishtown in April, for fairly "cheap" but I'd have to make a decision now, in order to have them there. I've heard mixed reviews so, I figured i'd ask. I'll look those other guys up... don't suppose you have contact info do you? Thanks! -B
I use mara plating and polishing in newark.............they do an OK job. they dont do much for prep so if you have a shitty part, the chrome is going to come out shitty, but if your shits just a strip and dip they are the way to go and the prices are right, people are ok. if you go talk to Luis. tell him caffeine sent you. i can post some pics if you like...im there on a bi-weekly basis between my father chroming the shit out of his knucklehead and me on my panhead. MARA POLISHING & PLATING CO 105 W PEDDIE ST NEWARK, NJ 07112-2753 973-242-0800 also, if you go to the shop, you can pick up some pretty nasty hoookers within walking distance -Rob "caffeine"
i looked at some bumpers from bumper boyz in allentown a month or so ago....they looked cheap, and that was the display stuff,so i could only imagine what you'd get.
Nu- Chrome .. or something like that Sucks.. Took for ever to finish my pops grill,, and cost almost 1400 bucks
I think LiBrandi's in Middletown Pa. ( 717-944-9442)is about the best around but not cheap, he's done a ton of work for me. He does an outstanding job, best I have ever seen. But what are you gonna do with the car ? Show it or drive it ? I bought 2 bumpers from the " Bumper Boys " for my sled & my dailey driver like $350.00 each vs $ 1,200.00 each from LiBrandi's plus I traded them 2 old ones for $ 150.00 credit each. Good enough for me.
Frankford Plating in Northeast Philly......slow and sort of expensive, but they do really great work......at least I have always been pleased by their plating........ http://www.frankfordplatinginc.com/ CB
I'm done with them. They do really nice work but they take forever. Before they take a job they give you a quote which is high but reasonable and by the time the part is done the price went up. Used them three years in a row same thing each time. I'll try someone else next time.
This sucks ! Why can't there be a place that does good work and does not hit you up for a ton of cash ---- That is why i posted that i may consider painting my lousy bumpers. Very discouraging
It's a ton of cash because it's a ton of work with nasty chemicals and a lot of regulatory requirements. The real questions should be why someone can't do the job for the price and within the time frame they quote you. but, of course, the HAMB is full of these discussions about painters and body shops, too.
I would take a look at tri city plating in tenn. Did the bumbers for my 71 old convert and did a great job. I sent them my bumpers and I belive the cost was around 750.00 for both. They will repair or redo as long as you own the car. they have a web site.
Whatever you do, don't use Mara plating or Globe Plating in Newark. These guys work together and the quality of the work is terrible. They ruined my frame by overgrinding it in the prep stage, areas of the frame that's were basically strip and dip are now all scratched and wavy looking. They will promise you the world, don't fall for it.
The guys on the "ford galaxie forum" have had nothing but good things to say about "Tri-city p lating in Tenn.I never used them
I used Mara, The Chrome fell off,They said I could't get it WET,they redid it over,it took them a week to do it the first time,Only a Month to do it over. Lucky
Always heard Mara was pretty good in Newark, but the dude in Philly is supposedly the old schooler to use and if you can wait for him to do the real deal take his time prep and full coat process your chrome will be show finish. Never used him personally but my pop and his buddy's used them in the 70's so he's no johnny come lately to the plating business.
