I have the dubious honor of taking the legless one from Louisville to Bonnneville to the HAMB DRAGS. Hopefully there someone will take the obnoxious little **** from me. Our first stop was in St. Louis MO. we were fortunate enough to hook up with Kurt McCormick to see his marvelous collection. After a very hearty breakfast at one of the McCormick's favorite places we proceeded to the Garage to view his awsome collection of very famous Kustoms and even a hot rod. The first the that caught the little guy's eye was the DREAM TRUCK. This was a R & C project headed up by Spence Murray and a lot of the famous guy's back in the day had a hand in building it. It was wrecked in the midwest and Kurt had it restored. He went nuts over this early 50,s Caddy, I don't remember all of the details on the car or the owners but it was a Barris car as are most of his collection. Notice that all of the Appelton spotlights on these cars are functional, no dummy spots on these early cars. He's really digging the small hood scoops on this Caddy. He spotted the Buddy Alcorn Merc next and did his usual begging to be photographed on and in it. Kurt's wonderful wife Amy got caught in the background of this shot. That's it for tonite, we are at the HAMB DRAGS and gotta get up early for the Springfield swap. BB
I had the honor of Mr McCormick inviting me to his home a few years back after talking briefly with him on the phone over some Dream Truck details. He is a super guy, a real gentleman and all around nice guy. Let me climb all over every one of his cars. It was an awesome day and a dream come true. Guys like him are what make this hobby so great!
Finally, back from the Antipodes and on the road with BobK again! Some things are just meant to be together .... like apple pie and ice cream !!
Mikey, you know there ain't no one cuter!!!!! He is still here and as a matter of fact i just uploaded some more pictures and was getting ready to post em. BB
The legless wonder spotted the Johnny Zaro Merc and just about had a Cargasam. Right next to that was one of my all time favorites, the Sam Barris Buick. Then we had head upstairs to see the two crown jewels of his collection. He had both of these cars out to GNRS in the Kustoms Then & Now building sitting side by side in all of their glory. The Westergard Cadillac And the Herb Odgen Buick which Kurt got from Barry Mazza so that Barry could restore the Aztec. We then had to say our goodbye's and thank you to Kurt & Amy and head west to Warrenton MO to see Jimmy & Debbie Hervaten. Jimmy is the guy that built a full size version out a Keith Weezner painting Emerald Tide and is in the process of another one of Keith's masterpieces Lit Up. Of course Bones wanted to meet these delightful folks and see both of the cars. They seemed to be happy to see him also. (They don't have to listen to him complain for 4,000 miles either) You can see both of these cars in the background in Jimmy's fantastic shop, he has every metal working tool that you can think of and if he can't find one he makes one. Bonsey couldn't wait to get on a hot motor in a couple of Hot Rods. The reason for the rust on this bare metal masterpiece is they just got back from Louisville and the Street Rod Nationals. Speaking of metal working tool, how's this for double barreled power. This visit was our last stop in Missouri and we headed west to 2 lane it across Kansas on Hwy 36 instead of the SuperSlab.
uote=wingnutz;6882504]when i grow up i want to be bob k... (but taller!) has bones been hiding in your pocket?[/quote] hell he hasn't grown up yet................ Or taller. It's the gnome gene thing. i won't even comment on the pocket ***** thing.
Super cool Bob, Bones knows, he was all over all the sweet stuff, always smilin! Thanks for the view of these way hip visits. You are so great to share with all your pals here. To know you is to love you, does that sound o.k., we do. ~sololobo~
Hwy 36 runs across the top of Kansas and is a nice 2 lane road that p***es through many small towns and some interesting ****. Just outside of Leabanon KS is this sign that directs us to the. Bones insisted that we visit this iconic spot. Just south of 36 is another marvelous 2 laner, hwy 24 and on hwy 24 is the community of Cawker City. And what excatly is this town's claim to Fame? So folks here it is in all of it's glory. Bones of course had to get into the shot somewhere. The rest of the way through Kansas was very secnic but bones was sleeping so I didn't have to stop. Spent the night in Fort Morgan CO and in the morning headed up towards Wyoming. We did take the superslab through Wyoming and into Utah and got to Wendover on Thursday afternoon. Bones was not interested in any pics on the salt. "Been there, done That" he said. I did convince him to have some pics taken at Joplin for the HAMB drags, I will post those next. BB
Here's a pic of Mr. Bones at Underclliff, the restaurant where Bob K. et al ate supper Friday night. I do belive that the hand holding the menu belongs to Santa Clause...
I heard that ball of twine is what he uses to tie up Mrs. Bones when he needs to escape. And Bob, see if you can get my $40 back.
Damn, I was supposed to get mr. Bones a couple yrs ago. Think he ended up I'n Aussie land or some such ****. Plowboy didn't trust me with it I guess!
Before we did the drags we did the Springfield Mo. swap meet and that demands a lunch at Pappy's BBQ the oldest place in Springfield. Bones gets reaquainted with a few old friends. Ben D Flat Top Bob & Keith Earl Scheib Then it was off to the s**** meet where who does he run into but his long lost Daddy. After a long day at the s**** meet we went to dinner at The Underhill Bar & Restaurant out side of Joplin. This is a real neat place that is built under a cliff. The back wall of the restaurant is actually the face of the cliff. The little pervert went ape over a picture of MM. I have never seen a picture of her in Blue Jeans before. I could hardly tear the legless one away from her. The next day was the HAMB DRAGS and he wanted to see the Purple People Eater and was insistent about meeting the world famous Kiwi Kev. He went compleatly ape **** over the willy's and had to see every part of the car. Loves the smell of fuel in the morning He even got into the seat and tried to drive off. He wanted to wake Atch up but we didn't have the heart to let him do it. We hung around the YAY-HOOS camp site and I caught him snuggeling up to Cliffs lovely wife Kat. More on the adventures of Mr Bones in the next installment. BB
Damn Bob I was just getting to know Kat and you showed up and ruined the whole deal. Sometimes I wonder why I hang around with you. Oh Well it's better than being with Carps, at least you let me out once and a while. Where are we gonna go next? Bones
