I have a 1956 Mercury -Monterey. The windshield wipers are operated by vacuum. They go up about halfway and stop. I've replaced all the rubber hoses. Theres a junction valve under the dash that a few hoses hook into. The valve sounds like it may be bad but I'm not sure what kinda noise its supposed to be making if any? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, Hollis

the vacuum wipers wil always be a pain,, bite the bullet and buy you an electric kit..i did for my 49 chev pu. and it works great....bolted right in just like they advertised.. hardest part of the whole thing was getting my 62 yo ass under the dash.:)

  3. Vacuum wipers use a leather seal inside the unit and it may be dried out. Try and excersie it. Remove the wiper arms. Plumb in a little vacuum from a shop-vac and shoot a little WD40 in it's breather port. Then run the crap out of it. This should help bring a little more life to it. Just long enough for you to get an electric wiper motor. OR... just dont drive in the rain!
