I knocked the end wall out of our enclosed patio and built some barn doors instead so I can move the Model A out of the garage so I can get some room to do serious progress on the El Camino in the next few [whatever time division works here].

Hey, I actually did something constructive this week end! What started out Sat morning as a simple wheel bearing repack turned into a dual brake rotor, bearing, and brake pad replacement ordeal. It's been a couple of years since I did the clean out and inspect the bearings thing on the 54. Last summer I pulled them and just shot new grease into them. When I first put the brakes on this truck I put on Auto Zone lifetime brake pads against the real clean brake rotors. Last year I replaced the Zone pads with some cheap no name specials because the zone pads gave off so much brake dust and always sounded like they were grinding. This year I find that the zone pads were cutting grooves into the rotors, don't know how I missed that last year, but the zone pads have matching grooves. One rotor had the back side worn down too far to turn, the other might have ben able to be turned, but after cleaning the brearngs I see the races were a little discolored. So new rotors and new bearings. Can't put the grooved brake pads on the new rotors, so new pads too. $188- ouch. Out for the test drive, and to the gas station, hey, the price is under $2.00 a gallon! Unfortunately it took almost 20 gal, I'm not sure I like this big tank anymore... I also put the finishing touches on my latest Desk Top Art Work. It came out pretty good.

Today my wife and I cruised to our car club season opener/picknic, a little over 100 miles from home. It was awful cold for a picknic, but we got to go for a nice ride and we had some fun with our friends and their Hot Rods. Gene

    P.S.

pics are in my "progress" thread, so look there for pic's to save Ryan's bandwith

Got some more pics of my 6x2 from my brother. I'll only get to see it for myself when my parents bring it over from the UK in July. I still need to get rebuild kits for those 94's.

Spent the rest of the weekend stripping the cowl and firewall for primer, nothing very exciting. I tried to remove the steering column and steering box but don't have a puller for the steering wheel, but FiddyFour came to the rescue with a quick trick using nothing but a nut and a hammer!

I moved half my garage including the Model A with the help of PBRmeASAP and his nice trailer.

Thanks for the Help Jeff!! I got to see the model A outside and set it on a flat surface. There is a good rake on it, I have been curious how it was going to sit for some time. I couldn't find my camera and didn't get any pics - but it looks good in its new stable.

That caddy motor looks AWESOME DRD57 - nice job.

Friday and Saturday I hacked out the old seat riser in the roadster and made a new driveshaft tunnel and seats which dropped the seat cushion 4-5 inches. I also cut 2 inches off the windshield, slash cut the headers, and rewelded the baffels cause they were starting to rattle. Took it for a ride and caught up with Fat Hack and DirtyT to take a look at the Chevys up at the local cruise spot.

Sunday I cleand up the garage and had a couple of beers with Bend and we went to check out Big Olds, and hang with Roadstar and Hotrodladycrusr.

Worked alot on the coupe: Door panels are in, super secret battery box is in, seat is in, unbolted the fenders and running boards and cut down a junk set of inner fender panels to clear my a arms, did a bolt tightening safety check, put the back bumper on, license plates on and a few other odds and ends.

Tonight I have to put on the front bumper, take her down off the jack stands, and DRIVE to the gas station for her FIRST tank of gas. :D

Finished my PCV install on the flatty. Seems to work. No more oil blowin' out the filler.

  15. Car-wise nothing at all, house-wise nothing at all,

Life-wise, daughter number 1 is now officially a high school graduate. Proudest moment of the whole commencement, for me at least, is when they said that 4 graduates would be joining the Armed Forces, my daughter being one of the 4, the whole gym stood up and gave those 4 kids a standing ovation. Thinking about it still makes me cry, I'm so proud of her. So all in all, it was a pretty damn good weekend.

Nice show- I walked through around noon time, and stayed long enough to see those two kustoms roll in. I didn't really know anybody, and I'm not much of a lawnchairsitter, so I didn't stay long, but was glad I drove out for it.

When I got back from O'brien's, I grabbed a six pack, called a friend who's a damn good TIG welder to come over, and we got about half the plugs welded into the firewall to smooth it out. This thing has had two or three different heaters and at least two master cylinders in it over the years, so the firewall is swiss cheese. You can see all the little plugs taped into it in the pic below. We're trying hard not to warp the firewall, but there's a ton of holes to fill.

Friday night, I finally got the engine in, complete with Thirtycoup's old T-5 (which is a LITTLE too long- I'm going to look into the S-10 tailshaft. It's either that, or the world's goofiest looking gooseneck shifter...). I got the engine crane stuck in a crack in the driveway, and decided to roll the truck under the engine instead of vice-versa, so it was a bit of an ordeal in the dark with a flashlight, but it's in.

I haven't posted many progress pics of my project, since I've mostly been working on steering/suspension stuff, and it's an IFS car, which really ain't too traditional, but I just start smiling every time I walk in the garage and see the engine actually IN the truck...

I rebuilt the fuelpump for my '41 1 1/2 ton, rigged up a gas can on the frame and drove it for the first time Saturday. Buzzed around my little farm and down the lane to my neighbors place to loosen up the rr brake drum.

WE'VE OFFICIALLY MADE IT TO THE PUTTING **** BACK TOGETHER PHASE!!!:D

We managed to get the brake pedal installed and got most of the front end back together. One of my inner front wheel bearings was hosed so we made 2 trips to the part store to get the right one. I also painted my strut rods and some other bits like my core support.

Got up early and drove the Bel Air to a swap meet on Sunday. I was hoping to find hop-up parts for the 230. Found nothing, of course. Picked up a taillight and bucket for 5 bucks, and that's it. Saw fellow HAMBer str8axle's 63 Impala, didn't see him though.

I got to the Tweeter Center Swap Meet on Saturday. Ran into a bunch of friends and even bought a few things.
Finished all the welding and grinding on the sedan project frame, so it's ready for paint.
Put some new skins on the PU getting ready for the nostalgia drags at Epping, NH on May 29th. I had some Hurst slicks on it last year and they were hard as a rock, so these should be a lot better! I stole the fronts from the sedan project for now. I like it with the WW's.

I did some bodywork and painted the truck I bought from zman. The 53 Chevy sat with nothing done to it. I wonder if it will ever get done.

I ´`m afraid of snakes, luckily we don´t have them around here.

I´m getting my 56 back together. A little fender and hood adjustment , finding a good place for the motor oil cooler lines to clear the sway bar and so on. I guess most of the time goes into the little details.
