I have installed edelbrock 3x2 carb setup w/ 94s on my 52 ford f1 with winfield su1-a cam and eddelbrock heads and merc crank. i don,t want to change out all thats needed to go to 12v and wan,t to convert the og ignition to something other than the vac advance that comes on the 8rt eng . it just dont work with this setup . I would like to convert the one I have to a standard va***e advance system as used in later model ford engines using manifold vac and centrifical advance . Has any one done this ? I want to keep the og dist because I moved the gen to the right side of the eng to make room for the 3x2 setup and the room under the bracket is limited .OK gear heads put your thinking caps on and help me out hear :confused::confused:

You're gonna have a REAL tough time converting that dist, no room for centrifugal weights in there. Guys have been turning down stock chevy/mopar distributors to fit for ages. Or find a mallory and go full centrifugal. My flathead likes the old mallory quite well!

Wow, totally new thread! Has the flathead distributor ever been discussed before? I'm gonna follow this one close. I wish this site had a search function.

I like the OLD MALLORY idea. I got beginners luck and converted this old Mallory to Chrysler electronic on my dual 97 flathead before I even knew of the multi-carb problem. All mechanical advance so it ran like a top.

Mallory full mechanical with your choice of electronics, I prefer Pertronix's but everyone has their pro's, con's, love's and hate's. Just be sure and have a distributor shop dial it all in before installation.

contact Speedway Motors and order their flathead dual point mallory distributor.I just put one in my 50 flathead with isky 400 jr cam, edmunds heads johnson adjustable tappets 2 deuce offenhauser manifold and the ignition is fantastic. The stock vac advance units are not up to par with what u have and the Mallory is centrifugal and works fine in mine.
