Did you check with FedEx? Sometimes they are cheapest way to go to Australia. USPS will usually be cheaper, except for oversize stuff like grilles. :-(

OK, this is a long shot adn I won't tell you that he just visited me and might have been able to take it back for you BUT HAMB member Rusty Olds from not too far from Brisbane, comes to the states to pick up airplanes in Wichita, KS. Not sure when the next time he'll be here doing that but PM him, introduce yourself and ask.

Another thought, put a post up on the OzRodders message board. Those guys fill containers in Long Beach and then have them shipped over. Someone might have room in one sooner then later.

  4. Thankyou Denise for the advice, i will try both of those avenues. I am the guy wanting the grill by the way.

  5. Big Al I will give those guys a call tomorrow sounds like a good deal! Cheers for the link. Anyone else got any info?

A couple years ago I was involved in a World Wide Pinstripe Panel Jam that went all over the world, including Australia and I kind of recall it cost the one fella $80.00 for 24"x30"x3" package, to ship to Florida. I know its generally based on dimensions of the package sometimes more so then the weight. So the $200 might not be too far off.

  8. It cost a Hamber $150.00 to get a free 55 Pontiac rear 1/4 panel spear sent from here in Canada through Purolator.64" tube with a 2" diameter....

the post office shipss to australia. just shipped an alternator bracket for a flathead there and the big shipping companies couldnt come close in price.

i was playing around with the usps shipping calculator and the large flat rate box ships for 58.00 to australia, i dont know if a grill shell will fit their size limit.

I have a shipper who brings parts from Long Beach Ca to Sydney, he has a container leaving in 1-2 weeks due in Sydney at the end of Sept. I can forward on the grill to you in Brissy if you want to use him. PM me for details.

  12. At this stage the JT American Imports seems the go. They quoted me $35 to ship it to Melbourne, and then probably $50 for their courier to bring it up to Brisbane.

I'm not sure how much it'd cost to get from Oxnard where Young_Blood lives to Montclare, which is 1 hour 45 minutes away according to google maps, but hopefully not much.

I'd still like to hear back from Fe26 if he can do it cheaper than that.

USPS is going to be the cheapest. I've shipped about 10 sets of hubcaps there and thats the way we go.

when shipping larger items anywhere by any carrier you need to be aware of the dimensions. one inch in any direction can boost the price quite a bit. items ship by weight , dimensions and location. if the dimensions are more than a certain length plus girth they ship by what is called "dimensional weight"... which is another term for "bend over". back in my ebay days on more than one occasion after spending 1/2 hour making a secure custom box to ship something in and going to the USPS or FED EX website with all the important information I found that if I cut 1" off it would ship for much less.

shipping is not rocket surgury. all the information is right in front of you.

I've used www.calimage.com.au at Narangba north of Brisbane on a few occasions. Grill needs to be packed quite well and sent to their US address. I always sent my boxes to US address with tracking so I could confirm delivery. Only a couple of forms required to filled out by you and sent to them. Cal Image previously used Titan Logistics in Carson but now appear to use United Presidents Line at Rancho Domingo. Price for me was always reasonable but be prepared to wait up to three (3) months despite what they say in advertising. I've never had packages delivered earlier despite meeting their shipping time frames to enable it to be loaded into a container. I had a friend wait six (6) months for hood side curtains and their reply was well, "*** ******"!!! No apology, only abuse.

Isn't there someone in Brisbane imports cars from the US? An old time rodder or Aussie drag racer, can't for the life of me remember his name. Surely it wouldn't be too hard for him to put a werll wrapped grille on the back seat or in the boot of a car that's coming over.

    Cheers, Glen.

  19. You need to find someone at your end ( Aussie) that has an account with UPS . I just shipped a '32 shell and insert from California to NZ , the supplier in the USA quoted $373 usd to ship to me via UPS so after I swallowed a box of heart pills I talked to a friend here in NZ that uses UPS regurlarly and had it shipped on their UPS account ( comercial rates??) for $90 NZD .

    good luck .

Wouldnt touch them with a barge pole, lost a mates unreplacable 59 Plymouth Fury Windscreen for months, shit happens but the way they handled the situation was rediculous they blamed everyone and when finally found attempted to double charge the freight.
Another guy I know drove an original 68 Hemi Charger into the yard in LA when he got it this end the engine was toast and the guards were filled with rubber. a legal fight ensued and they held his other stuff ransome.

That would be Roly Leahy, he passed away a year or so back his son now runs things (Peter I believe) a guy I know recommended him to me just last week. they are on the Goldcoast

Careful of hidden Charges with UPS they suck to Australia, I havent tried the method 4t6ford described but will be looking into it.

Crap! I wish I had known this two weeks ago as I just sold my '63 Dodge Polara 500 convert. My Aussie friend Peter, who lives in Castlemaine, flew over here to upstate NY, picked up the convert, drove along with us to the Woodward Dream Cruise and then drove the car to LA. He then dropped it off at a Long Beach facility for shipping to Oz. I am pretty sure there would have been space in there for a grille shell. Damn, sorry mate.
