Was in Toy's-R-US today and came across this little gem. Granted its a 1970 Mustang, but the doors are what made me buy it. Even had the right address! I was out in LA a few years back and got a chance to track down Kevin Preciado "Cyclone Kevin" and got a tour of Cooks, and met all the guys. Couldnt have been nicer folks. Thought this was just too cool. And the fact the door lettering matchs exactly is way cool. from some toy website.
Great Movie. I was in Filmore for the premeir, had a great time there with Cyclone Kevin, Adriene, Knucks1930.
Thanx guys, Yes, very cool to see this, especially here on the HAMB (I know its off topic). Last year I was walking through the local AutoZone (Where I once managed) and saw this same car. The guy who made them is a local and his dad owns a shop near Cook's. He asked if he could use the Font and made the car "Cook's Green",(coincidentially Wyatt the building has been painted since your shot). Funny thing my dad took to look @ a very similar car over on Olympic back in 1980 which is the next major block north of Cook's. (aka Calaways Speed Shop in DOS) We gave one of these to George's 50's Diner in Bixby Knolls area of No.Long Beach when all of their Die Cast cars were stolen. Thanx to HAMB members and loyal patrons they now had to add a fast fast lane to their growing collection. Jim, Paul and myself Thank You Wyatt for posting this and J.G. for telling me about it. Very Cool!
Great folks. They made me my first set of "good axles" for my Ranchero when I raced it. Never a problem
Cook's was a regular stop when I drove the delivery truck for Blair's, they could do about anything...took a hemi block that had the bell housing sawed off by a clutch explosion and they welded it back together, welded up and machined broken quick changes, broached axles, etc....prices were right and the work got done when they promised...
Thanx 296 Ardun. Jim and Paul keep the shop as it was, cept maybe much less clutured They can still do just about anything one brings in=It may take a little coaxing, but they get it done in a timely manner and keep the tradition alive. I'm glad that we are the home of Cyclone and that we are doing what Mendle "Cookie" Ledington so much loved to do Machine!
"Cookie" did the spool, axles and hubs in this QC for me in '62. Only took about a week to get it done. Never tore up any of his pieces, but split some center sections when they became the weak link.
Dean, Those center sections must have been Hali-Breaks? (I was looking @ your rear cover) Jim Dunn who was a Fireman along with Cookie's grandson Bill Cannon used a Cyclone quickie in his Firemans Quickie rail job, Not exactly sure about the HP, but he told me it was the toughest SOB that Cook ever made. I'm glad that we still make em . Coincidentally, your RPU ranks right up there with Jim Steven's 29 RPU as the All Time Bad *** Drag Trucks! Just Sweet!
Yes, they were Halibrand center sections. We finally replaced the V8 with a Champ style. No more rear end problems from then on. Then it was the clutch. About 8 p***es and the disc and pressure plate was toast. R&R'd a few between rounds. Got the procedure down to about 30 minutes. Wish I had half that energy now!!
