Got a 1950 ford custom flathead 6cyl with the 3spd.

    Its a 12v conversion.

    Need to replace/rebuild my starter.

    Im in Los Angeles, Ca.

Anyone know a shop or a direct link for me?

I already contacted MAC's, but they only list the flathead 6cyl 6v starter. I called, but it was afterhours for the tech line, awaiting a call back tomorrow.

    Thanks!

It seems 6 volt starter work fine on 12 volt , so unless yourse is dead , there s no reason to replace it .

When I try and crank her, I just hear the starter solenoid clicking. I took the starter out and apart. The area near the brush set is broken. The coils/clips was off, when I put them back on, it sounded like it turned for a second, then only the solenoid clicked again. Ill take pics tomorrow.

  4. I never fart around with auto electrics. I have a local shop that I bring the starter, alternator or generator to, tell them what I expect and they fix me up.

You might be best off with an older established shop as they have seen/fixed everything.

We sell the repop flathead starters. I keep them in 6V and 12V. For $169.00 it's all NEW (including the bendix). No core or exchange either. Yep, it's made overseas (not China) but they work. Same starter for the flathead V8 and flathead Six. You can also try to get it rebuilt. The brushes and bearings are available. Not sure about the brush holder pieces though. Here is the link for our new starters:

To have a good shop go clear though the one you have and fix it right most likely won't be cheap and will probably end up close to what Vanpelt wants for his all new one. The local guy here in town that I take stuff to does an excellent job and gets stuff sent to him for repair all the time but his prices aren't cheap.
