Yes, I plan to have it at Teddys & Toms shop after the motor is changed out or in about a month or so. Plan is to have both it and my "'57 T-Bird "Battlebird done and at the Moonshine Festival". We will see.....(time & money...the "Car-Nuts" enemies!).

Tom, keep reminding me about the Moonshine Festival, I'd love to go! Looks like I'm gonna have to miss the James Dean Run/Ducktail this year, so hopefully I'll catch the Moonshine

  5. Great find, man what a cool Plymouth and the cross ram is the icing on the cake.
    Congrats.

In 1969 a friend bought a 1957 Fury with the 361 and the long ram. We took the engine out to change the trans if I remember right. It was hot out so we decided to make a soda run. The owner dropped it off the jacks and said we could hook up the e brake when we got back. We left the hood off to show off the dual quads. When we got to the liquor store Johnny left it running and just parked it up against the concrete stop. The e brake was mounted on the back of the tranny. When Johnny came out he wanted to show off so he reached over and grabbed the bell crank for the throttle and gave it a good twist. The car jumped the parking stop and drove right into the liquor store. We all ducked and when the noise stopped we looked up to see the shocked face of the owner of the store staring at us from behind the counter. Years later we were still finding (sometime painfully) glass from the window and bottles when we worked on that car. Seeing that manifold brings it all back like it was yesterday. Nice find and cool car.

Neat story...guess that was before "drive-in" Liquor stores (maybe you started the trend! A guy in Ohio had a beautifully restored '63 Galaxie for sale and backed it out to show to a buyer and was talking price. The owner wanted to show how good it sounded so he reached in and turned the key and forgot it was in gear! It started up and went through the door, into all his tools, etc. and half-way out the back of the garage. The older seller just said"what will you give me now for it to get it out of here"? That car was at All-Ford Carlisle a couple of years ago.

Just to let everyone know the 413 Cross Ram motor is now ready to drop in. Have located the Speaker cover. Still can't locate the SonoRamic Fender badges. Anyone know of any NOS or Repo? '62s the same I think. Located an old registration in Bobby Allisons name....plan to haul to Mooresville for his signature as soon as done. Will keep everyone updated.

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. The Mopar torsion bar chassis was superior to any other American make. The BB Mopar engine? Well, it was the first engine the race sanctioning bodies started handicapping so Chevy and GM could win some races.
Mopar had real performance, Gm had cool decals and slick marketing directed at stupid kids.
    I think it's beautiful!!

Hey Tom, Thanks for the link. The H.A.M.B. indicated that I had not been on here since Oct of 09.
I think that this site is way cool, but I have disciplined myself to only so many hours on the computer per day, hence I gave up the HAMB for awhile.
I an Totally jealous of your Plymouth.
I thought you guys might be interested in this 36 Dodge that I have.
Let me see if I can attach a couple of pics.
Its a 383 with the long rams.
I like to make things fit where thay are not supposed to fit.

  19. Being ugly is the new cool.
    Nice history on that car.

Best of luck with that Plymouth.
I always had a soft spot for those things.

It's a cool piece of history and a great find... Mopar made just as many great cars and advances as anyone. So what such handicaps were imposed on the BB Mopar? What such decals did GM have in the early 60's? The 409 song I'll give you.... but as time goes on a Mopar fan has little room to talk when it comes to corny marketing toward stupid kids.

There is nothing ugly about that car. Not even a little bit.

WOW -what a load of horsecrap!!!!!!!!!!! I don't know if this thread will be recirculated but I have the real facts of the white '61 Plymouth Savoy BB mopar (440) . if someone bought this car thinking it was Bobby Allisons he got taken to the cleaners (noting posting time frame of 2011)that information is also BS. the real deal~I bought that car with the slant 6 , "3 on the tree" manual trans in Roi Linda Calif mid 90's it was in pristine original condition no rust couple of very small dents 'and as stated so ugly I drove past it on the way to work for 3 weeks about 1/2 miles from my home in Rio Linda-sitting for sale till the damn thing started to grow on me. stopped to look at it price was $600.00 ~took it home. I drove the slant 6 till I built a 440. I had a 4 speed and the clutch linkage was in the car easy to do that part. the slant six K member is different from the V-8s BUT a local wrecking yard had a '61 ply V-8 body and they cut the mid section of the car out for the weld on engine mounts- that way I could use the center of the frame to accurately place the engine and did. the engine fit of course as it was a big C-body car, the brakes sucked a friend gave me a donor 68? Chrysler and the rear end was a bolt in and made the brakes awesome. the cross ram had been given to me by Jerry Pisani, of Pisani & Bill Waits superstock racers of the 60s.(64 plymouth BS/A) it had most of the linkage ,I had to make the center pieces that clamped the manifolds on and covered the heat port to the regular intake manifolds. I only took the column shift arm off left the rest in the steering column dont recall about under car linkage. from there is was just put it together very simple after finding engine mounts for the V-8 and the K frame- and have fun, I took it to hot August nights in Reno couple times and other shows in Nor cal.- it was a sleeper right down to the skinny tires an baby hubcaps- a friend in placerville Cal wanted it and I sold it to him for 5 K, he kept it for?? time and it disappeared. the next time I seen the car it was on ebay being touted as Bobby Allison's car for some 35K saying he had bought the car as a slant 6- sent it back to Chrysler where they hand installed the 413 (really my 440) blah blah blah. I answered the ad on ebay first asking for under chassis pictures as I knew details of my work they could not hide- he declined to provide under chassis pictures. I moved to planB telling them they were full of crap,I built the car in California the seller cursed me a bit told me to mind my own biz -no reason to communicate with him again. now I will say- whoever they had work on the car did some awesome detail work on the engine-repainted it '61 colors and found correct air clealers and added the sonoramic scripts on the fenders. that person/shop were craftsmen. but what are the odds of two white '61 plymouth savoys (blue interior) with original slan6 being up graded to a long ram B block. I note the write of the original post said they were rebulding the engine to a 440 from the 413- had to- that was the engine in the car. I then wrote to Bobby Allison- asking just to make sure the 1,000,000 to one odds (less than 60,000 total Plymouth's for 61?)

Bobby kindly replied saying"I never owned a 61 Plymouth, I raced Chevrolet's in 61, and would not have had a Chrysler product in my stable. not that he didn't like them, just at that time he had no chrysler products, and certainly no savoy long ram car.. the next I seen of the car was a youtube boast of he car again saying it was bobby Allisons- if you look up Bobby Allisons '61 Plymouth on youtube you'll see my posts. it is sad if the owner then or now believes the fake and phony letters of authenticity for the car or an alleged letter fro m the Allisons and certainly Galen Govier will not certify that as accurate.unless he agree's I built the car. sorry for the owner- he got taken.

    Cool write-up Geri
It's a shame the lack of scruples people have when it comes to a quick buck(s).
I can imagine that poor scmuck that was hoodwinked has been educated by now.

He was 66 back in 2014, when last on HAMB, so would be 70 now. I certainly would verify the providence of any car before handing over any $$$. Some people just don't have any scruples, retired used car salesman?

Outstanding Mopar. These cars were so awkwardly designed they somehow become cool, esp in 2 door post form. Friggin love it! She's a dandy and that's the bottom line. Sounds like there's something rotten in Denmark though?!

You don't see many '61 2dr Sedans so I thought I would post this one. It's a Savoy with a /6, 3 onda tree with rear speaker and rear window defogger. It has rust in Qtrs and floor pans. I'm going to clean it up and it will be For Sale for $1500.
