I just installed a edelbrock 3x2 system to my 52 8ba it has a new fuel pump that I was using on the stock intake . No knock before the swap.... Any idea what this might be ???
Maybe the fuel pump flange is slightly higher than the stock manifold giving you too much clearance for the fuel pump rod. Jus' thinkin'.
and the cure? I remember ol timers telling of using a copper penny beaten into a thimble shape to go on the end of the pushrod.
the pump diafram relaxes after it builds fuel .ol pappy joe told me they would cut off a piece of belt leather and put in the cup on the pump and rest on the rod. ive torn um down and found them that way. mink
what Minks Garage said--remember the piece of leather trick on old flathead fuel pumps-Pop did it on trucks and pickups we had on the ranch
Well I think that's ok for an emergance repair and I would do that if I were strandid somewhere. I'm not sure I want to do that just yet . I will however keep this in mind if I can't find a more permenent way....
First check gasket under pump stand...it should be thin paper. Some are rather thick fiber stuff... Then get some calipers and measure height of manifold from base to where pump stand sits, and scrutinize your new intake gasket. That should tell you if height is the problem and what exactly is too high.
