wow . where do i start. so i wanted to reclaim my old 51 . my first car. ill try to keep this short somehow i guess. i looked around everywhere and all i could find was a project that someone was going to "ratrod". uuggh . was i glad i rescued this thing when i did. i was told it ran two years prior to my buying it ....umm ya not so much considering the incomplete fuel system and rusticles in the water jackets. i overpaid a little but i got what i wanted and thats that . it was in really good shape body wise but mechanically it was dead. i bought this last october when i didnt have a garage to work on it so it sat until we bought a house this march. now i have a dream shop and a lack of some key tools that im trying to remedy as i type this. we took the front end apart fenders all the way down to the frame and i am now trying to finish ***embling the original front suspension. shouldnt be long now and ill have the body off the frame so we can get started cleaning and painting the frame. its taken money , patience and endless tedium to get this far and im not even really close to accomplishing much of anything just yet. i have grand plans for the car as a resto/custom ride with a unique approach to the interior and paint. its not gonna be "ratrod" but those guys will appreciate it im sure along with the old timers too as i have no plans to change the original 216 motor outside of dual exhast and maybe multiple carbs. i can picture it in my head of what it looks like and im seeing something from a batman movie or **** tracy comic. im leaning toward arkham asylum taxi. anyway.... im trying to upload photos but its not letting me . looks like i will get back to this in awhile.
Awesome! Look forward to your build. I'll be having my '50 towed to my house in the next week or two so I can get started. Just wish I knew WHERE to start. Guess I'll just jump in LOL.
got lots of progress tearing down. didnt break anything i cant replace so i am happy. body comes off soon i hope.
the first pic is taking it home on the trailer from kansas. we lost the visor somewhere that night . ****py. got a new one for it though. the second is how it was a month ago in my shop. the front end is a challenge but im getting it done with help. it should be roadworthy as im going by the books and other info sources.
this is where it is today . not quite finished putting the thing back together but its clean , painted and should be good once i get the wheel/drum situation handled. hopefully the next pics are of the body / frame seperation.
