Would you pay $3500 for this '28 A coupe project? (pics)

I haven't seen it in person, but I am falling in love with the thing. (It's sort of a long-distance relationship right now.) I have been wanting to build an A in the traditional style, and this one looks to have a solid body and seems complete (no motor or trans, which doesn't really change anything for me.) As far as price, I know it doesn't really matter and it's worth what someone might pay for it, but I'm just curious about the general HAMB public's opinion.

If it has a title, and it matches the serial number on the frame, then yes, I would indeed buy it.

 

It looks good to go, but maybe start at $3000 and see what he says. Does it have a titile?

 

I need to check on the title. That worries me a bit, but seems to be getting a bit easier with antiques around here lately.

 

Multi colored cars raise a flag with me, so does primer on rusty areas. If it is a solid West Coast rust car with good subrails then yes $3,500. is a good deal. Just check to see if all the metal came with this car and it isn't just a collection of parts.

 

That's a good point on the different colored panels. However, if the person has assembled a good collection of panels, it shouldn't matter. I will keep you all updated after I take a look in person.

 

I've seen nicer go for less, But it's in the ball park.

 

I've seen shittier go for more, and I've seen really nice go for free. So while it's in the ball park, it appears to be a box seat price for a bleacher car.

i can get a sedan 4 door with a title for 4k that runs ( drive train engine would be useless to me so would be ditched ). so i guess your car is in t eball park to what people are asking.. his car aint going anywhere.. so maybe he is a little high.. in these old model A i do not see a more door as a disadvantage especially if you want room

Title? Garnish moldings? How are the fenders? Look a little beat up in the picture. If its all there, solid and has a title, I would go for it.

$3,500 is not a bad deal. I would buy it. I know it's stated often, but it's true, 28 coupes are getting more difficult to find. I wouldn't worry too much about primer and different color body panels. When I'm 83 years old I'm sure I will look a little rough too You will probably do some sanding on the body and shoot the body in primer/paint at some point anyway. It looks a little nicer than the 31 coupe I started with. Have fun with it.

 

All depends on how much of it you will use in your build?
If you're going to make a frame and are only going to use the bare body for a hiboy coupe, figure you might recoup $500 or so for the stock frame, hood, fenders, etc depending on condition.
That means you're paying $3000 for a body. If you're going full fendered/hood and they're salvageable, it's a better deal for you.

If it has a title, offer $2500 and hope you can score it for $3000.

 

If I averaged out the responses here, the answer would be right around a solid yes. I am going to take a look tonight. I'll take money. Interestingly, the ad has been listed (though a bit hard to find) for over three weeks. I have to think there is no title or something like that.

I think it's a fair price even without a title.....

 

It's hard to find cars of that vintage WITH titles. Don't sweat it, every state has a process in which you can file for ownership in the event that there is not title. If it does have one, you better jump on it
