On our recent trip from upstate NY to the Bonneville Salt Flats for speed week 2011 my friend Bob and I experienced a serious engine problem with my 1932 Ford. One of the Egge pistons came apart in the flathead Merc engine as we were heading west on I-80 but we decided to continue on to Lincoln, NE to get parts from Speedway Motors. I would like to give thanks to the Maint. Dept. and Parts Dept. for their great help. We were provided with everything needed to jack up the 32 and strip the engine. The Machine Shop provided tech help while the Parts Dept. had everything in stock to replace all the .125" oversize pistons, rings, etc to complete the repairs. The Maint. Dept. also provided shade and brought lunch for us while we worked on the engine. So again special thanks to Zeke, Kevin, Roger, and Jason. When you are over a 1000 miles from home and need to rebuild a 60 year old engine it is good to have a place like Speedway Motors that will go above and beyond just selling parts to its customers. Glad to say that the rest of the trip was uneventful as we met up with the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Shop traveling circus in Cheyenne as scheduled. Had a great time in Bonneville for speed wk 2011.

Getting a great story and business report on a vendor now-a-days if refreshing. It sounds like Speedway went out of their way. More people should be aware of great customer service like this.
Speedy Bill got where he is by helping out people and being a good guy in general. Glad to see that ya got helped out! I think you even made the Speedway Motors facebook page working on the motor out in the parking lot.
Why? For the most part, EVERYBODY sells the same junk now a days, different suppliers and boxes, same **** inside. I've been dealing with Speedway for as long as I can remember and the only problem I've ever had was the retaining clips were missing out of a box of flathead pistons, and that was Egge's fault more than Speedways. They sent my a set right out, no questions asked.......
Good to hear! Speedway's customer service has always come through for me, unlike some of the smaller outfits including alliance vendors. Nice truck btw...
Neat truck! How'd you do that, shorten a sedan? Can you drop the bed a tad? Speedway has also been there for me, a number of times.

Glad to read Speedway came through. I've always used them and the two times I had a problem, they came through in spades. Hell,one of the tech guys told me what parts I needed and how to setup my rebuilt frontend. Cl*** act.
No experience with anyone there except Bill(Smith). I have talked to Bill a few times by phone and met him in person once. Lots of interesting stories and info, and he seems like a good guy.
They are good folks, They opened the muesum for my friend and I during the off season when it is closed. They have always given good service and help when needed. I meet Mr. Bill at a auction in Atlanta about 10 years ago, he is a real nice person.
No problem. Top of the piston broke & stayed at top of cylinder, bottom of piston with wrist pin continued to function. The 2 parts of the piston fit together with no pieces missing.
Not at all. Top half of the piston stayed in the top of cylinder, bottom half with wrist pin continued to function. Of course that cylinder was dead. No damage to block.
Years ago I paid $25 for a 4door sedan, used all the parts to restore a 5- window coupe & this is what was left over.
Couple things that are great about this post. It's cool that real rodding is still alive and guys can make a tough repair in a parking lot. Second, Speedway isn't the evil big company that it's often made out to be. I've always had good luck with them, and will continue to enjoy their products in the future.
Why? I don't like to use chinese stuff on my hotrod, and tend to think a little less of those who would go there for their wares, that's why. If you like Chinese stuff that's up to you. Understand what what I wrote, it says it's nice to see something positive about them. I get as much stuff as anybody,and am happy with their service as well, but try to avoid Chinese ****. So as one who disapproves of Chinese ****, it's nice to see something positive about Speedway.
That's killer! Its nice to know that there are businesses that actually care for the individual. Oh and I got my package from speedway in the mail today!
