Recently got the Plymouth running and need some help regulating the fuel pressure. It's originally a 350 fuel injection out of a 91 Chevy truck that I've had a 4 barrel Edelbrock carb put on. Fuel pump in the tank (out of a 96 Blazer) and the carb was just rebuilt last week by a reliable guy. I don't have a means to check what the fuel pressure is, but it is idleing too fast and you can see fuel spurting out the top of the carb. Fuel pressure regulator I have on it goes from 0.5 - 5 psi. I've had it all the way down to the 0.5 psi and still too much. I'm going to take the carb off tonight and take it back to the guy who rebuilt it just to make sure it's working right, but I'm sure it is just knowing this guy. I'm also wondering if I just have the wrong kind of regulator on it and need to get another one. Not sure what kind I should look for if this is the problem. Any help is appreciated. thanks.
sounds to me like you have a fp for fuel inj. and its overriding the regulator. 60 psi is to much for a carb to handle. you only need 5-7psi.
I think that's right too. Do you know if I can keep my current setup and just regulate the pressure low enough? I thought the regulator I have would work (dial style) unless it's either not working correctly, or the pressure is too great and "overpowers" the regulator, if that's possible. If this fixable, any thoughts on a different regulator I need to look at?
Id go with a different fuel pump (non F.I) and regulate it down to 5-6 psi. Not sure about the Edelbrock carb, but my Carter AFB instructions said nothing over 6psi. I dont know if you will be able to get a regulator that will choke a 60 psi pump down to 6 psi. I believe most in tank F.I fuel pumps use a bypass system where unused fuel is returned to the tank via a seperate fuel line...if you could get it regulated dwn to 6 psi, you would have 50 or so psi shooting back into your tank.
Could really use some help on finding a regulator to reduce the 60psi or so from fuel injection fuel pump down to the 5psi or so needed at my carb. Is there such a thing? Checked Speedway and Jegs and really didn't see anything. If this type of regulator doesn't exist, what's the least expensive/easiest way to go to correct the problem? Trying to keep my costs down you know.
You could replace the pump or the whole module in the tank with a unit for a carbureted engine, or remove the pump in the tank altogether and install a remote inline pump for a carb.
I found this; http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/12-803BP/10002/-1?parentProductId=761151 and this; http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/12-804/10002/-1?parentProductId=745059 You might want to call Holley or Jegs or Summit and they can probably recommend one if you explain what you're trying to do.
