"if you don't use it , your just saving it for someone else."

That's not all bad--the mad hoarders keep some of the neat old stuff from being mulched by the fad du jour by keeping them out for a generation.
Those cars would all have power windows, off-peach paint, and 22" Boyds if they'd gotten out into the world at the wrong time.

Sad day indeed for the Pickens family....Kind of feel a little quizzy reading you-guys responses,,, but hopefully it's good advertisement for the family.

  13. You guys like dirty old bikes like that one too? I thought I was the only one. Sheesh.
The listing says there is a 29 Henderson going. that doesn't look like 1929 to me.

  14. and I just want one intake and one set of heads for my 8BA. :)

With the popularity of "patina" lately, I think it will be an interesting auction, but you better come prepared to buy......meaning, BRING CASH...LOTS OF CASH!!!! I wonder if George Poteet knows about this auction?

I don't think I ever formally met him, but spoke to him at Autorama a couple times. I heard he was sick. Sad to here the outcome. Looks like some cool shit!

I went to an auction about 9 years ago. There was an old automotive repair shop that had a lot of old Ford parts left. WOW! People spend some crazy money on stuff that isn't worth the prices they were getting. I saw an absolute JUNK model A go for $3500. I mean it was rough! It was like a bunch of sharks smelling blood.....

I think there were a couple of deep pockets there just trying to out-do the other...

It's on my calendar now. Wow. It's worth going just to see the stuff, even if not to spend money. Looks like a museum's worth.

Fellas, do me a favor and hold back on bidding for that '75 Vette. My barber has already been informed to leave it long in the back...

I'm still looking longingly at all the pics on that auction site. Can anybody tell me a little bit about Mr. Pickens? I'm fascinated by this kind of stuff. Who was he? What did he do? Where did he find the money, and more importantly, the time to amass such an incredible collection of stuff?

Reminds me of the Henry Ford Museum. That nut just collected every oddball thing he could get his hands on. Then they put it in a museum. For those that haven't been there, don't think it's just a car museum. It has everything from waffle irons to the chair Lincoln was sitting in when he was shot. The only word I can think of is "eccentric".

I hope when I die that people use the word "eccentric". Maybe that's what I'll have on my tombstone. It sounds so much nicer than "lunatic".
