Attempting to isolate valve train and other internal engine noises. There's many stethoscopes on the market, ranging from ye old doctor type all the way up to fancy digital. Any suggestions for a good quality unit that gets the job done?! Thanks.
They are so cheap I don't think quality is an issue. Mine has last 25 years. no batteries required. Great for finding bearing noises. JMO
I always used the doctor style with the metal probe. You can take the end off and use the open tube to find air and vacuum leaks. Lately I started using the electronic type. Here are some good units. http://www.steelmantools.com/Diagnostic-Tools.htm I've also seen a unit that connects to a laptop and gives a visual of the frequency of the sounds. I've used everything from a broomstick to the modern electronic tools. As I get older my hearing isn't as good so a visual representation helps.
