Had a tough time falling asleep last night knowing that today marks the 10th anniversary of what happened on a beautiful tuesday morning here in the United States..... I called in at work that morning and told my my boss I wasn't going to show up because of what happened... Instead, I stayed home watching everything unfold on tv... Unbelievable.....
Thinking of you guys today...especially the 343 firefighters. I was a one year veteran when this happened. Big wake up call. Pete
I called in sick that day. my wife at the time woke me up all frantic saying "we are under attack, thousands are dead" this was before the 2nd plane had hit. she had lived on Manhattan Island for a year working as a nanny, several years before this happened. I looked at her and said "youre f*cking crazy" and rolled back over. I finally got up to see what she was freaking about and went down stairs to the tv and watched the 2nd plane hit the other tower and the towers falling........... she was right after all. What a terrible day for America.
I was at work when the news broke here, we jumped at all hours. The unit C.O. arrived on the Drop Zone and told us all. I never would have guessed that it would result in me and so many of my mates going off to war. Three tours, I'm glad I went, in a way. At least we exacted some revenge. Doc.
God Bless - we're thinking of you today in Canada - a great loss for all Americans and all the rest of us citizens of the free Western World who believe in loving thy neighbor, not destroying them out of sheer jealousy and hatred. Steve
hemisteve, thank you..After it happened the president said we should continue on like nothing happened, to show strenght..And I did..But if I wasn't fifty three years old at that time I was so pissed off I would have inlisted and said gimme a gun...Today I had things to do but just couldn't get started, too much reflection..
I remember that morning and thinking that I was lucky because no one I know lives in NY. A couple years later I found out that one of my closest friends Evet (my best friend growing up), who I had lost contact with, now lives in NY City with her mom, husband and daughter. She was across the bay at a park and snapped these pics. http://www.kodakgallery.com/gallery...Mail-_-Share-_-Photos-_-legacy&localeid=en_US
I was deliverying a 1950 Prefect for a guy about 60 miles away. I dropped the car off around 11;00 and he was telling me about what he had heard.. 3 years ago i did a trade and ended up with the same car I had delivered on THAT day.. Go figure ,the car would find me again. Rick
I had to shut off the TV this morn,as different stories were being told. Just sad. I will be attending a ceremony later today to honor all those lost, and those who gave......I mourn and thank you.
