I'm trying to sell my Lincoln and I posted it on craig's list and got this reply from a guy in the U.K. " I am interested in buying the 1952 Lincoln Capri at that price $950 I want you to remove the ad from the website and give me your contact details so we can proceed with payment. Regarding payment, I have suggested that my client residing in the states should send you a certified check of $5,900 which will carter for the cost price and for shipping. Its going to be a cashier's check so should be cashed immedaitely you present it at any check cashing establishment.I have an International shipping agent that will pick-up and ship the 1952 Lincoln Capri over to me here in U.K and its expensive though. So, on getting the check, you are to cash it and deduct the cost price then do me a favour of sending the remaining funds meant for shipping to my International shipper via Western Union Money Transfer .Immediately he gets the money, he will come for the pick-up. Confirm this and send your full name, phisical contact address and phone number which will be used in mailing the check payment to you via courier service. I'll be waiting for your favourable reply." Sound's kind of fishy to me.Anybody ever dealt with something like this?....Would any of you U.K. Guys ever make a deal like this? Just don't want to get ripped off...Thanks,Mike
That is a very popular internet scam. Do not send someone your car and a stack of cash. Use your head!
Here you go.... Straight from CBS News.. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/11/01/eveningnews/main527883.shtml

HAHAHA... spend the shipping money on booze and strippers son!
That's what I thought....Here's the guys email.just in case he try's to contact anyone else on this board. mrjoe_joseph@yahoo.com
not even a registered email... i would call the local police and ask who handles this sort of thing... i believe its on the federal level.
the deal is guys...when you cash that check here in the states. you have to use your real name and info..So in a couple days the check comes back BAD! they are gonna come after you for cashing a bad check....So if you scammed him and kept the loot. you would in return scam yourself because you are at fault and will owe that money back to the person or bank who cashed it
Kirk, I thought the same thing. But according to that news article elrod posted the check is counterfeit and if you cash it your the one held responsible for passing a fake check.I think I'll just block the fuckers email...
Sleeper- Fuck with him.... Reply to his e-mail with all sorts of random shit: links to Nambla ask about his sisters tits tell him about the murder that took place in the car ask him his measurements tell him that the car is not for sale and that you used the ad to meet guys with bad teeth... you know, fun shit.... HC

Plan9 Im sure you just walk in and smile and theyll cash anything? come on. This day and age you gotta have an ID to get a Big Mac
is that mail fraud (postmaster)? or FBI stuff? hmmmmm... call your states attourney general they would know who to turn him in to.....good grief!
I've heard about this shit, but didn't actually know of anyone actually trying to pull it off. Completly fishy... it even sounded computer generated... I can't beleive assholes try and pull this off. As for the email, don't even waste your time... they are sent of invidual email servers that give you a fake from address, so it's nearly impossible to get a hold of where the email came from unless you can get ahold of your email server and see if they tracked it. It's gotta be a bored collage student.
50mercfan had the same shit pulled on him.he went along and acted like he was gonna do it, so he could gather all the info he could and turned it all in to the cops.the guy even sent him a check that looked real homemade on cheap paper.haha
draglink... dunno about your ghettos, but here there are big signs that say, NO ID REQUIRED... loopholes, man... all you need is a SS # and a fake ID ID theft is the number one crime in the US right now
It is deffanitly a scam. They are not interested in your car at all all they want is the ballance of the money from the bogus check they send to you. I work in a bank and we get a couple customers a month that come in to do that very thing. Some listen to me when I tell them its a scam others send the check/wire. The ones who dont listen usualy say if the check is bad, I won't send the car, motorcycle, jewelry, or any other valuable antique that may be in question. Idiots don't realise they just wired the crooks a bunch of money they don't have. They acctualy think someone is gonna show up to pick up the goods.
Someone in Africa tried this scam on me last winter for 2 cars. They will never pick up the cars, they just want the money from the check they gave you. Check is for $5000, cars are only $2500, just send them the difference. Yeh rite. I didn't bite. By the way, I just won 500,000 in an internet lottery too, ( NOT) Didn't bite at that one either. They were after the money you needed to send so they could release the funds. Give me a break!
We've had them over here in the UK as well, only they say they are in Europe. Definatly a scam most peoplr from here would mail you and get a phone No. john.
Not only is it a scam, but a pretty lame one at that. If you want to see how a REAL scam artist works, then check out my link below. FRANK ABIGNALE JR. SCAM ARTIST LINK. This fella beats all. Some of his exploits were extremely complex. So much so that you almost have to admire him....
A guy I work with is selling his Stealth RT, and had the African scam happen to him. The guy came through all serious sounding in the first email, then in the second asked to have his bank acct # sent to him so he could wire the funds. And he wanted to go $10000 over. So Mike fucked with him real bad. Eventually, the guy went away. Jay
the company name was jorex procurement corp. out of brisbane aus. i checked with a bunch of people and no one had ever heard of them. i e-mailed kustoms of austrailia and he checked it out and could find nothing. so i played along and acted like everything is fine and i can't wait to get the check. went i got it it was a fake credit card check. i took it straight to the cops and they are working on it. i actually read about this scam on the hamb a while back before i signed up. so when the guy e-mailed me i knew it was a scam. the hamb probably saved my ass a bundle.

Pretty amazing con artist!
That movie "Catch Me If You Can" was a real trip! Unscrupulous as he was...Frank was just unbelievingly brilliant. Best part of the movie...when Frank has the "lady of the night" cash his check for him out of her own funds, before their "business transaction" takes place...
Yea, His early criminal career was unbelievable. Hell, he did most of that stuff before he was 21. The thing about his scams was that YOU would NOT KNOW you were being scammed. This car shipping scam is the work of some two bit idiot(s).....but then again there are people who fall for it. JT.
The other one that's running right now is the PayPal scam. If you get an official looking notice from PayPal stating that you need to resubmit your information to get your full service re-established, DON'T DO IT! And delete it immediatly, some of the e-mails have a hidden file that sends your address list or captures what you do and sends it back to the scammer. Like for example you logging onto PayPal to check your account after getting the e-mail. Update your virus check software if you haven't in the last few days. Microsoft just put out a security update too. Go get that if you don't have automatic updates.
