What do you use to put a frit band (black band) around a windshield so you can urethane it in place? I had use a 3M product but it flaked off in some spots. Below the urethane and trim, so I can not get to it to fix the spot. Windshield is in great but not sure the 3M product was the best.

Any web sites that show or tell how to install windshield that doesn’t have black band.

Well on every modern windshield I've seen, "frit" is baked on, or manufactured along with the windshield. Some of the older windshield types are clear all the way to the edge, I believe these are mostly where a butyl "tape kit" would have been stock. Thats the tarry junk that stays sticky forever and never cures.

We use urethane on everything except gasket type installs, if the windshield's clear all the way to the edge we use a self-etching primer, applied with a wool dauber, that is specific to the brand of urethane (we like SRP) Since it's self-etching there aren't many problems with it coming off the glass if applied correctly.

There are urethanes which are primerless to auto glass but they tend to cure slow so we've moved away from them, also UV light will break down the urethane bond (thus the major reason for the frit in the 1st place)

    Hope this helps

Anyone use this primer on a clear winshield for flush mount.
Looking to find out if it flakes off after while.

I think the primer sucks ! It comes off very easy ! I would etch the glass first with something like Armour Etch (glass stemware etching cream) . I'm presently trying to paint a border inside after the w/s install. I'll update as it progresses.
