Cool. But look at this comment from a reader:

"I know they sure do fill our county jail and general session court calenders and have even killed a few of our local residents by driving drunk on Rt 66 while towing their junk heaps here.

"They do also create a great deal of overtime for the Pigeon Forge Police Department though! They also create substantial amounts of carbon monoxide air pollution with those unregulated and unsuppressed old gasoline guzzlers.

"I just fail to see any value for the general population that they serve. The negatives far outweigh the positives for the local population who are suffering in poverty engulfed in minimum wage jobs."

I'm not near enough to there to say anything about the first paragraph, but the perceptions evident in the second are educational, the idea that getting within a fairly short radius of an uncatalysed exhaust will cause one to keel over and die. Someone needs to explain to them that in demanding "regulated" and "suppressed" (dead giveaway word that) cars they are demanding more production volume, shorter product life, and, inevitably, more traffic.

Some people you just want to grab and shake ...

I'm guessing Mr. "Local Taxpayer" is upset because his wife makes him drive a minivan and is taking his anger out on all those lousy Hot Rodders.

    Very cool...

Check out the jackass called "local taxpayer" that commented on the article at the newspaper site. Very insightful and I am sure his claims are well documented.

You Pigeon Forge rod runners are a bunch of hooligans!

Surely they realize there is a car show of some sort in PF every weekend from May to October.

  12. "I know they sure do fill our county jail and general session court calenders and have even killed a few of our local residents by driving drunk on Rt 66 while towing their junk heaps here." ... Musta been the damn street rodders and show queens! Last I checked, hot rodders drive!

But joking aside, congrats Mr. and Mrs. HotRodPrimer!

I live close to pigeon forge and that reader that made the comment is an idiot and probably not born and raised here. The car shows bring in tons of money for the town and yeah there may be a few bad eggs in the bunch but you can't weed them all out. It's mostly the kids showing up to cruise not the rodders themselves. As far as I know there was only one wreck on 66 that involved a guy hauling his car here that killed anyone. He was on drugs from what I remember. I hope you all don't think every local is like them.

I spoke with a Pigeon Forge off duty Policeman @ breakfast one morning ( No is was not at the donut store  ) and he told me that most of the Police looked forward to the Shades of the Past event. As a general rule the partcipants and the crowd was very well behaved and created very little problems. He liked the overtime pay in his pay check.

No so with the crowd @ the Grand Run.

He said that a large percentage of the Grand Run crowd was unruly, loud and obnoxious. Alcohol and drugs were a factor ... his words not mine.
He also said that Pigeon Forge was BUSY ... most weekends from around May until after the leaves turn. He said the worse weekend for traffic was the Tennessee TAX FREE weekend.

This Policeman was about 50 years old and had been a Policeman for almost 30 years. One reason he may be a little more tolerant of the cars is he has a 57 Chevrolet ... but he wants a 1940 Ford convertible. He cannot be all bad :)

Ive noticed that the majority of the people who are pulled over by the P.F.P.D are Tennesee residents (usually in diesel trucks with 8" stacks on them and a sticker in the back glass that says "Just because its Smokin' dont mean its Broken' " ) - Mayor

  20. Gee,thanks,that makes me feel my age!

As for Mr taxpayer,in every city and town in America there are a few disgruntled individuals that have to voice their opinion and displeasure about everything in general.

I have no animosity towards the local taxpayer,,it's his/her home and fortunately their right to complain,,this is America.

I do think the young lady did a good job on the article which seems to be lost to the local taxpayers comments. HRP

The Grand is beyond horrible. I love shades cause it's more laid back and I can kick back in my chair and watch the cars go by. Most of the officers are cool as heck you talk to them. Tax free weekend makes me want to move.

This is the reason I am ashamed to drive a diesel truck. If I didn't have to have one I wouldn't.

  29. Local Taxpayer needs to take his balls out of his purse and visit a car show.
I'm bettin that a ride in the right car would put a smile on his face.
