Hey folks, I have the opportunity to buy a second version of my car relatively inexpensively but with a blown engine. I was just curious as to people's thoughts on buying a car just to scavenge parts off of it even though it could probably be made to run again fairly easily. Really, I just want to swap the parts from one car to the other, maybe try to sell off the second car after the swaps or is it worth just storing for future parts scavenging... Who knows? Anyway, this may be no brainer land for you guys, but this is totally new to me, so any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

If it's inexpensive,... BUY IT !,.. Look at everything on your car,.. use the best parts of both cars,.. put your old stuff with the parts car, and move it along at a fair price to somebody else that wants a cheap project,.... ( Just my opinion)

parts cars are the best way, and cheapest way to restore or keep a car going. buy it.

    What tb33anda3rd said.
Plus, it's better to be the one paying $200 or whatever for the parts car than the one paying $200 for a fender off of it!

Yeah, I'll see what I can get it for. Its in remarkably good shape for a "parts car" but I believe between it and my current car, it'll make one fantastic car (minus the impending paint job) and one sorta meh car that needs a new engine. Overall though it seems like a win.

  13. Once you destroy it by parting it out, it's gone forever. If all it needs is a motor swap, why not swap it out, sell it and make a few bucks, then buy something that's a POS to use for parts?

Unless the motor is something that's not easily obtained, but that's why there are small block Chevys, too.

Well I wouldn't really part it out in my last case scenario, but put the better of the parts on my existing car while putting the lesser existing parts on the "parts car" so it'd still be whole, just lesser, I guess.

  15. What type/year car are we talking about?

If you're just swapping pieces between the two, I don't see any issues there, or if you end up parting out the parts car, as long as all the good parts got used or sold, I don't see a problem there either.

What pisses me off is when people buy a nice, fixable car to use for parts, take two or three things off of it, then send it to the crusher when they're done, because they don't feel like selling off whatever's left. Then it's a waste. But I don't see a problem with what you're planning.

Unless you are cutting up a rare car, go for it!

if its cheap enough buy it if you can stash it out of the way somewhere can hardly go wrong if the price is right dont let it get away i just found a clip i needed for a nomad on one of my other old cars if not i would have had to look it up try to find it order it and pay and wait for it . of course i have plenty of parts i will never use but sometimes you cant even buy a repop of what you need [[ even if the repop fits ]]:D:D

in my own past, i've destroyed far too many Falcons picking them apart for my two door projects...... hindsight being 20/20 and all.
what kind of car are we talking about? that's the deal breaker.
