Been lurking for a while and have admired some great work from a distance . Anyway , I have always been into customs and rods and like so many here was influenced by Custom car and Street machine in the late 80's , when I was able to buy my first car I wanted a 34 roadster like everyone else . I like most couldnt afford one so got the only car every to feature in magazines that I could - VW Beetle !!!!! So forward wind 20 + years and I an a dyed in the wool VW guy . Ive had more than I can remember and have currently got a 64 21 window bus and a 52 split window beetle - Both in the process of being built , I also have a VW restoration / modification workshop . Having fallen in with a few "hot rod " guys recently I have decided to get a car which has the engine in the right place . I managed to flip an old VW kabriolett I had sitting in the workshop and got myself a 48 chevy 3600 . I know very little about these cars but learn quickly so am diving in . I will post up build thread soon but in the meantime here's a taster
I have a 1950, drove it stock for 15 years and then got the bug to put it on a 94 s-10 frame......best thing I ever did. Now I have a v-6, 5 speed, a/c, power brakes and steering. Awesome doesn't describe it. Good luck with your project and WELCOME to the H.A.M.B Grommet
Welcome from Florida. I have always like the green color they used on this era of trucks and cars. The truck looks to be in good shape. Best of luck.
Welcome form an ex Limey in Detroit. That Bedford in the back ground looks like it could be a cool project too.
Hello and welcome from a few miles up the road (sitting at my desk in Trowbridge as I type this). I too was a dubber until I saw the light about 20 years ago. (I'd still make room on the drive for a resto-cal oval, but don't tell anyone!) Have fun!
Your 48 Chevy pickup is a classic and a great choice for a build. Any idea of how you want to build it? Start your own build thread, with lots of photos! Welcome to the H.A.M.B.!
welcome from oklahoma u.s.a. i have some of those old chevy trucks they are easy to work on all parts are available to fix them up you cant go wrong order you some catalogs and a shop manual good luck and keep posting those pictures ///////////////
Thats scary - I live about 4 miles outside Trowbridge - Hilperton marsh . Send me a PM we will need to get together . My 52 beetle is a zwitter and will be resto cal all the way - But on air - building a 5 inch narrowed air beam at the moment . you will have to come over workshop and have a gander .
I am pretty set on what I want . 1 - get MOT , I cannot register in UK without this 2 - register and get registration number etc This will involve an inspection by the department of transport to confirm that it is indeed a 48 chevy truck - This will not be the case if too many alterations are done . 3 - Sort chassis out - Front clip added from anther IFS vehicle and change to air suspension front and back - 4 bar linkage at rear 4 - engine - V8 and running gear 5 - restore body work I see this taking a fair amount of time but I will document it all here . Incidently I am not sure about overriders on the front and understand that they are quite sort after so if anyone wants to make me a sensible offer I would be willing to part out .
Thanks for all the welcomes folks , Looking forward to making a positive contribution - Oh and asking lots of silly questions !!!!
