I truly believe Barret Jackson has ruined the car hobby in some ways $$$:eek:
Go look in Hemmings at what you can buy a true cl***ic for, ie... Packard, Lincoln, or Cadillac. Guess whatever floats you boat(or bank account):D

just an update on this car :..............Ron Maxwell out of Parawan Utah now own's the Nova and is just about finished with the total rebuild of it, looking to actualy make a p*** or 2 at the Bakersfield event next month. I saw the car last month in Ron's shop in Utah, he was awaiting arrival of the new engine and should have it up and running soon.

Total Rebuild? Wasn't this a brand new build that had never been raced or even driven since they finished it?

The car was a static display, it wasn't a running car. Like the Tommy Ivo "Showboat clone". The engines in the "Showboat" are empty.

For 225K nobody could be that stupid. But they can be that rich. I don't even continue a conversation with someone after they mention BJ.

  11. Be careful. You might get Ryan upset like I did when I criticized the "rich and aimless" decisions of some people that **** this thing up for us little guys;)

That is correct,..........as I understand, when Doug had it built he had all the original frame/ch***is guy's etc., do the build. The engine was, as someone else mentioned, just a dummy motor for display. Other than that it was built as a "race ready" car.

Ditto, and I wish I could get by saying this.
Go to the Holman - Moody thread and read my commentary from this morning.
If these people had any inkling of what value racing junk has been elevated to presently, there is no way that stuff would have ever seen a dragstrip.

yeah its pretty amazing some of these prices.. w hen it was built it was for a purpose not profit. if they would of known what kind of money it would bring down the road.. my guess a lot of it would not of been so crudely been made. crude dose not mean bad.. just no time spent on finish. thats my opinion of course.. and that is based on what iv seen at swap meets. could just be age of the parts that have made them look crude.

im just glad i love bucket T;s.. i do not see them ever demanding such prices..

  16. Well the car is cool clone or not, the price is too rich for my blood clone or not.

I tell you what though, I would give a testicle to have 20 or 30 minutes with MR Thorley to shoot the **** and pic his brain just a bit. Never got to meet him and he is pretty damned smart.

Why is everyone commenting on how expensive a car is when nobody knows how much it sold for?
    Amazing. Really amazing.

  20. So what you are saying is that they wanted more than the car is worth? Sorry I couldn't resist. :D

Whatever the sale price or the asking price it is still a slick little chebby. Forget the dollar signs and take in the car. Its not likely any of us are going to buy it anyway right?

I always loved that car as a teenager. I remember it as being the one (in my mind) that forced builders to rethink the designs of these cars. This Nova, being so high and having a full bellypan caused what appeared to be havoc towards the top end. It seemed to ride along like a Frisbee and everyone held their breath until it p***ed the finish line.
Too fast and the car too high and aerodynamically dangerous.
It wasn't long, maybe within a year, that I saw the debut of the Logghe Ch***ied Don Nicholson Comet at Irwindale's season opener in 1966.
This was the first time I'd seen a lower, flip-top, all fibergl*** one-piece body, race car that was not an altered wheelbase stocker, but a fully purpose-built race car.
But, it too had a "learning curve". Through the traps "Dyno's" body flew straight up in the air and the body was destroyed. Don cruised into the shut-down area sans body.
But, I remember that day well. As you looked at the pits from the top of the grandstands, you could see all the other A/FX types of cars with their hoods open or complete one-piece fibergl*** front ends tipped forward, their doors opened, etc......but in the foreground was this Comet that had it's entire body tilted up on the rear hinges.
It towered over the other race cars that started life out of some car dealership showroom.
THIS Comet was a purpose built race car.
Within 12 months the A/FXers were all but gone or running in altered cl***es.
The "floppers" were here and there was no going back. Like it, or not.

But this Nova was the perfect example of extremes when it came to modifying a showroom car.
    I always loved it.....
Great memories at Lions, that's for sure....

I look forward to seeing this car actually run under it's own power.

  22. Maybe someone will own it that drives it more than on and off the trailer. Damned sahme that some many of this type of car becomes show pieces. it will be a perfect waste of time and energy not to mention of a good car of some show car collector type buys it.

I hope you get your wish friend.

After crawling under it at the museum it appeared to have an 8" rear end and much of the suspension would have needed reworking to actually make a p*** in the car, but the last I heard a couple of years ago the price fell into the $40K+ range, so at a price of the mid 40's or so, it might have been a good deal.
Some time and another pile of money and you'd really have something.
Shoot, if I wasn't invested in my '34 sedan, I would have been interested in buying it. After a year or so of work and $, I could have looked into the garage every night before bed and flipped on the lights and seen the Doug's Headers Nova!!!!
And it would have been street legal, too.

hell even that fake engine looks cool.. id let it sit in the living room :)
    chris.

  26. Judging from these two shots they work on it like I work on all of mine standing in front of the engine and behind the core support and it may ride a little rough. :D

I am just guessing that the struts are because it is parked? Mazooma do ya know did it not have a rear suspension?

Exactly. But I still get floored each time there's discussion about what some people think this stuff is actually worth, and especially stuff they can tie to a magazine history, legitimately or not. I was chastised recently when I was told 'free market will always establish the price of an item'.
BS. This is an example that they don't know themselves.

What's this worth if it were red and said II Much instead of white?

Or this if it was blue and said Jungle Jim?

All I know is we used to raise hell from Saturday until the sun came up on Sunday with this stuff......... and dammit I miss it.

After I posted above, I just felt compelled to show off the only photo I have of my hell raising days just 1 more time.
I can't p*** this up, so here it is again, and for anyone who hasn't already seen it, this is a Thunderbolt with an econoline front axle, and no the high riser was no longer serviceable because parts hoarders had started controlling the market after FMC obsoleted FE's.
So to keep racing a couple more years in the early 70's, we had a 427 CHEVROLET in it at this point to keep running B/G.
We still had more fun then than you ever will today because collectors hadn't been born yet.
    I want to race again ! !

  29. Tom S, I was just at Beech Bend all weekend helping a bud run his OT 7.65@185 drag radial car. I hear ya. We need to find you a ride to run!

I got out of racing 2+ years ago since my kids were so young but I hope to pull together a 10.5 door car next year.

Don't worry about and become bitter because someone is profiting over old race cars, or clones of them. It's not worth losing sleep over, and there's nothing we can do about it. It's just a fact of life that whatever the latest craze is, someone will figure out a way to profit from it. Who cares?
I stopped racing in 1989 when it just became too much financial burden for a hobby and family. I still enjoy watching the races, and building cars. I also love race themed street cars, just because I like the look, not because they fit the latest fad.
