This happened in Springfield, Ohio I didn't see it posted http://www.springfieldnewssun.com/news/1932-hot-rod-collides-with-car-1252062.html
What a pisser. late in the video it shows a straight on side shot. The frame is so bent the cowl is almost touching the ground. Sad sad
At least it looks like it was a well built rod. That's a hell of a hit for any car, more or less one that may not have been as high quality a build. Hope everyone is ok.
That was my buddy shooting the video. He works for Cox Publishing and called me when it happened to text pics and verify it was a `32 for his story. The Dayton TV called it a plastic kit car. Gl*** body did fairly well but the frame is wasted. I`m sure that hurt big time looking at the airbag deployment on the other car.
I hate to see that. I too hope that there are no serious injuries. The deuce seems to have protected it's occupants pretty well considering - look at the amount of damage to the Chevy Lumina and the windshield - that with its crumple zones, head and neck restraints, seat belts and airbags. It takes a fair amount of foce to create that kind of damage. Note how the press sensationalizes the Hot Rod bit "1932 Hot Rod collides with car". What type of car? A 1932 Ford is also a 'car'. You can bet if the other car had been a Vette that the headline would have noted that it was a Corvette. Damn hot rod hooligans....
Was it a head on, or did they both meet at the intersection coming from adjacent directions?? Can't quite figure it out. If it was a head on, that driver of the Deuce can't be doing well. I will be surprised if he's doing well no matter WHAT way they were traveling! Scary! No offense to Springfielders (I lived there for a long time and have family there), but you guys have some strange drivers there! Hope all are okay!
wanna talk about strange drivers, come visit az.. hah, its damn right scary especially during winter when we get so many old snowbirds.. also our drivers license is good for 50+ years.. i know i will not look the same, and probably blind, deaf and stupid in 50 year and hope to hell im not on the road. i know if you are not doing 10mph over the speed limit the cops will run you over.. so you better use that gas pedal. took me a little while to understand they wont mess with you for speeding 10 over here.. in WA they would nail me for 10 over.. funny how that works from state to state. chris. chris.
Well, the marks on the Lumina tell the story, the p***enger did not wear their seatbelt, air bag did not keep them outta the window. I really hope they are all ok, head injuries ****.
The Lumina's air my be designed to hit the windshield first. On my wife's 1996 Caprice, the p***enger side airbag comes out of the top of the dash. I'll bet those two old ladies in the video were in the Lumina.
A "Well Built" car is made to "Crumple" as far as safety is concern. That's HotRodding!!! Godspeed Homie. Lets all pray for OUR BROTHER.
Ouch. It makes my knee hurt just looking at the video. Reminds me WAY too much of the head-on I had in my A Tudor a little over 3 years ago. Similar damage to the cars involved in my accident. Unfortunately I was the crumple zone in my A as I shattered my knee and broke my wrist -- lucky nothing worse! Hopefully the guy in the Deuce came out ok!
yes it dose hurt.. i shattered my left leg already.. if that was to happen to me they would cut my leg off nothing left to save.. scary to even think about. chris.
True, a lot of p***enger side air bags do use the windshield as a "deflector" to direct the inflating bag towards the p***enger. However, that hump in the Lumina's windshield sure looks to be the impact point of someones noggin.
Found out from someone I went to high school with that the driver of the coupe may have been a guy by the name of Jim North. But they were not 100% sure. So if anyone knows Jim, maybe check in on him.
The Jim North I knew was a new car dealer in Springfield and is into old cars so I`ll have to call around and see.
My great grandfather was killed in a Model A head-on collision. The wreck shoved the hood into the cab like a blade and nearly decapitated him. I always thought that it was some kind of fluke until I saw the video below. I couldn't help but notice that the hood is inside the cab...probably in a similar manner to my greatgrandad's wreck. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgaZMSjhpH8&feature=related Anyway....I know this is kind of a gruesome topic to discuss, but I've been thinking about getting a Model A for a daily driver and can't help but think about the way these hoods are positioned and the tiny little cup that holds the hood in place at the cowl.
