Well I started the day with a 3 hour wait at the border, but the 39 made it, the only hitch was my cheap chineese ing switch gave out , and it took me awhile to figure out what was wrong, but I made it to the show , by then my fellow club members had park all the cars, we decided to go have breakfast and several of the resteraunts had bacon or sausage with eggs and potatoes for 2.99, if you wanted ham steak it was a buck more, hell of a deal. We went and check out all the cars and then I went with Geeman to look at Old town State Park, I had'ent been there since I was a kid, man what a treat , a lot more of the buildings had been restored and were like giant dioramas dicpicting the life of San Diegans in the 1800's it's a whole town with its wooden boardwalks , livery stable, the city hall and sherfice office, the first Well Fargo Bank and the people who care take the park where dressed in authentic 1800's atire. even the hotel was restored and you could dine inside if you wanted too.By then the place was packed with spectators, and we all hung out by a mexican restaurant with a patio bar right next to the stage where the bands were playing, the beers were only 3 bucks and the order of rolled tacos was only 2.99, the weather was a perfect 72 degrees with a cool breeze from the bay. The single guys in my club kept busy gaucking at all the pretty girls for San diego has a reputation for having the most atractive women around, Bad Bob would have ran out of film in a hurry, I couldent belive that even at 6p.m. tons of spectators kept streaming in. there was a lot of cool vendors besides all the gift and novelty shops around. There was so much to see and do , the time just flew by, The Hilkens truck won best of show, best hot rod went to my friend Jose Serrano for his traditional 32 roadster, best custom went to the black and gold 50 chevy. Many thank's to Julius, Kim , all the Motor Cult crew, Hot Dog Pete, The Old Town Chamber of Comerence and my fellow club member Huggy . Hopefully , Motor Cult will have the show again next year so that other people can get a chance to see a really neet part of San Diego.

Had a great day in Old Town, beautiful weather and meet up with some friends we haddn't seen in a while. Didn't get to meet/talk to many people but had a great day. Here are some pictures that my wife took while we were down there. Just linking to the album to save time. Enjoy everyone.

Thanks for the pics, Geeman took some pictures of the old buildings, hopefuly he will have a chance to post them, I really dug all the restored stage coaches and wagons, I know they are a bit old for the hamb, but I feel they were an important part of our history, they even had a studebaker buck board that the studebaker bros made before they started manufacturing automobiles, At the Wells fargo bank, they had this bilboard that had pictures of the people who founded the diferent towns and citys in California, Geeman's wife should me the picture of her great great grandfather who was Banning, he founded the transportation buissness in California as well as the docks in long beach and the city of wilmington and the city of banning was named after him. It was fun to read and see the pictures of these ranches that later evolved into the citys we live in. Some of the founders of industry had homes in Old Town, for me it was a trip to see and walk through some of their homes.

On saturday I woke up way too early and emailed "motorcult" to see if there were spaces available.
I was thinking that with only 100 spots it woulda filled up quick.
They emailed back (535am!) and said come on down.

Our RPU had a busted starter,
so quickly swapped one out and we made it down there,
carting our bikes too so we could ride home,
    I had a half-day at work.

RPU and my long haired boys

At the end of the day we came back.
The place was packed with 1/2 tourists/locals and 1/2 gearheads.

It was called a "kustom kulture" show,
and I think that having a car show with vendors,
somehow plopping it in the busiest "free" tourist spot in San Diego,
    was a great experiment.

(this pic was at the end, lotsa cars had left and security was pushing people to the sidewalks)

Usually car shows have people expecting to see cars.
This one had tourists wondering what the heck was going on.
    It was fun to watch.
    Hopefully they were spending money!

There was a huge variety of cars,
    lotsa non-hamb cars,
but I didn't take many pictures.

We did meet BOMONSTER and the kids got some T-shirts and stickers.
    got to start them early.
    Good to meet ya!

    motorcult put on the show,
and they must be doing better than I thought to have this thing!

This engine was in another funny car.
That distributor mount is giving me ideas.

    This was painted there.
My wife said I would have been able to hang this up in the house.

Hope they do it again next year.
For a first annual show it seemed worth it.
I can't believe they were able to close down Old Town's main drag (SD ave).

    Hopefully spectators were spending money.
    If the show lost money,
I'd consider doing it on Newport Ave. in Ocean Beach (OB).
but obviously that's not my call!

    Wherever it is,
    please do it again!

  10. homes sweet homes. looks like a great time to be had, old town is such a neat place. first they crushed el adobe, then kinda bummer when they kicked out bazaar del mundo as cheesey as it was.

either way still a great venue.

Love it man, If you guys are wondering why I keep talking aboat stage coaches, buggies and buck board wagons and their relevence to the hamb, it's because some of the coach builders of these wagons went on to produce the early bodies for automobiles, for ford it was Briggs and murray, A friend of mine Ray Wells , just reproduced a 1909 ford coupe, their was only two known to exist, he used the original ford blue prints to make it, these coupe were made completly out of wood and is the most beutiful body you have ever seen, I had a chance to buy his first prototype but I just did'nt have the money. Some of Fords best looking bodies were made by briggs and murray. Fisher coach builders made the bodies for Chevy and G.M. You could say my dad got me into this hobby, he colected vintage ho**** buggies and I used to watch him cruize around in them on sundays, hense my soft spot for center door "T"'s and top hats. One of my all time favorite hot rods was the "boot hill express" if any body has a picture of it , please post it. At one time I had an 1860's milk wagon I was going to convert into a hot rod, but reality set in and I figured the cops were never going to let me drive it, anyway by going to the Livery stable mueseum at old town, it has motivated me to redo my center door and get it back on the road.

This was the first year for the show and was a last minute thing, but I feel the show has a lot of potencial, thanks suede 37 for the pictures, I saw you out there all day taking pictures despite your health issues, your love for old cars and shows and determination is a inspiration for all of us.

I love the wild show cars of the sixties and remember building the model cars, I also remember the pie wagon, the beer truck, the tiajuana taxi, the trash truck , the red barron, I wonder what happen to these cars, if anybody has pictures of them , it would be cool to see them.

This was a great event considering the late timing.....it's a great place with tons of traffic potential and will grow for sure. They guys at Motorcult did everything right and this event is going to blow up for sure.

Magoozi...here you go...I love me some google image search...but some are only shots of models....

Thanks for posting that, I feel like I am eight years old again, I remember
building the earlier version of the Beer truck, it was a flat bed c-cab truck.I think for alot of us , model cars are what got us into hot rods.
