Gday I have a 55 Chevy 4 door that I had an accident in years ago (Mitsubishi drove into me the Chevy came through better than the MItsi). I got fully paid out by the insurance and got to keep the car so it owes me nothing. For a few years now I have been wanting to convert it to a 2 door post but dont have the means to get used parts in the US to make this happen and I have not been able to find parts in Aussie (not that many 2 doors here) so I have been looking at Danchuk as a possibility. On their site I have seen full quarters including inners and complete door or full door skins. Prices are not cheap but I dont feel they are excessive for new panels and as I said the rest of the car is free. I would also need a left front fender (damaged in the smash) but I will keep looking for a replacement in Australia as the Danchuk fenders are about US $1000.00 What I dont know is if the quality is OK and if they are made in the US and I was wandering if some anybody has had experience with some of their panels and could help me with an answer here. I tried a search and only came up with a thread about floor panels. Thanks Karl
Try www.chevytalk.com They've had several threads on the quality and fit issues with repop fenders and panels. Pretty sure they are not made in the USA. Probably all made in China. In my opinion, the best way here is to buy OEM parts and refinish. At least you know they will fit.
Thanks for that Gman. Maybe I could try a wanted ad on here and see if some one can help me out. I have got a guy that ships stuff out of Long Beach for me so there would not have to be any overseas shipping involved for anyone with the parts. I would have thought though that 2 doors with good panels were getting hard to get and were either being rebuilt or maybe sold off to convert solid 4 doors in the US but you never know I could get lucky. I may even try joining the chevytalk forum you suggested and see if anyone there can ***ist. I could maybe get away with getting one side only for dimensions and modifying my 4 door parts for the side to keep the cost of panels and shipping down - particularly if I am only able to get reproduction panels. Thanks Karl
You can also try Tri-5 Chevy on line and join up with them too. A good number of members either do have or can probably find most parts that you need. Good hunting
