On the Dodge Bros front; Just over 9 months after accepting my order for custom cam gears, here is the test set for checking backlash. Which is .0048. I hope that is about right. Sounds right to me. This is what the DB has been waiting for.

It was clean when I got and I oiled it when it wouldn't advance. All the parts moved well, the springs just seemed too tight, but what do I know Maybe I will give it a try now that the oil has been on it a while.

  3. Stock springs feel stiff. Did you try it in an engine?

T N A last chance, Murphy Aromotor! Check the rocker oil line! I give up.

Steel. Holes will be good. And broaching a keyway in the crank gear is on the list along with another crank type gear for the aux. shaft. But at least I have seen something that looks like progress.

May be a simple question, but how do you tell the B distributor from the A version?
All I have are A's and Mallory's. Is it a lack of a manual advance lever?

    Yes

And on the B the condenser is mounted externally through a hole in the housing. Points are different also, but without samples, that would be hard to tell.

I had Martin sprocket make steel timing gears years ago they were quick and cheap too.

  9. T N A and others possibly interested in this head. According to C Yapp the head in the article has a number 17 somewheres so, in his, C Yapp's educated opinion, there must have been at least 17 heads manufactured . This is a fairly rare item, Speedy bill's collection doesn't have one. The water jackets are open and depend on the gasket to seal them. At least this is true on Larry McKinney's head.

Thinking of Crankshaft, witch one you would you guys prefer Burlington or ****?
Burlington is like original, but would **** be better?

I´m also wondering, would it make harm, if i take Crank whit oil holes and use it whit out pressured oil system? Should i close oil holes whit plugs or so?

Good luck Have Fun and take lots of pics for us

  15. Burlington is not like original. It is quite an improvement over the original. It has been carefully engineered as is the ****. A Burlington sells for $950 US not offered as drilled. **** is offered with $1499 or with out $1299 the oil p***ages drilled. Both are made of the same material. **** is finished in the US. Can't find weights to compare. Holes or no holes your choice.

If you had been around in the 50's or before you would only run 81's as a last choice. You would have preferred 97's. The cars went faster with 97's which was the WHOLE purpose of building a "hot rod" Maybe 94 92 or 48's Chrome would have been more likely in the 50's after track roadsters started chroming everything.

I have a JC Whitney catalog here some from about '60-1 that lists chromed 97's for $14.95. That's the earliest I can recall.

I don't think chrome is what you'd be looking for.
Not that there were no cl***y or show cars back then but, it was more about go than show. 81's or 97's would be OK but dual updrafts would be way cooler in my opinion. More of a pain in the *** though.

I didn't get to meet the owner of the ugly '27 RPU but he must have been reading my mind to build it. The cars were of a great variety and I didn't quite get them all, the fun was over all too quick. The '30 AA truck probably made more runs than Olive but I missed it. Pat

Sure enuf! I've wanted one like that since my brother rode in one to Bonneville in '51, they just have a special message for me, like an itch you can't scratch. We've been working on my computer since 12:30 and finally got all the virus removed and new Windows system installed at 5:30, the virus were particularly tenacious. So, I didn't get to include my pictures with my comment till now, hope it works this time. Pat
