I was thinking of changing the rear bumper on my 51 Merc as I don't like the chunky ends and ribbed panels on the side. I wondered if anybody had changed theirs (with success!) and what they used. What fits well? I have considered 51 Lincoln (should go straight on) 54 Mercury, 51 Cadillac and my favourite so far, the 54 Buick Roadmaster. Any hints would be great as here in England there's nothing in breakers yards to try out.
Ether I like your treatment of the standard Merc rear bumper, the plate housing looks great. Did you try a De Soto bumper on the rear? I found a few pics on net of different bumpers fitted, what I want i something that matches the front better, is simpler, longer on the sides and should be the same height as the front. I was hoping to post some pics but couldn't, there's some nice samples at www.rikhoving.com/51mercury. I'm thinking the 51 Lincoln and 54 Mercury bumpers are too tall but I'd like to see them in situ!
