I am looking for vacation ideas for next fall 2012 that includes some car stuff. Swap meets, car shows, maybe a Nascar event.

    <O:p</O:p
We usually travel by car so we are stuck on the east side of the country since we only have 10 days vacation including travel time. We travel from SW Florida.

    <O:p</O:p
My wife choose the vacation for last year so this year it is up to me. If it sounds fun we will do it.

    <O:p</O:p
My company has it's end of year in July so I am able to use my vacation after August.

    <O:p</O:p
We are Ford people by choice but most car events are fun for us regardless of the brand.

    <O:p</O:p
Please throw out your ideas for us and we will post our fun findings when we return with a few pic on Photo bucket.

    <O:p</O:p
I know it is a year away but that is how we plan our vacations so we can save up all year and not have to put anything on plastic.

    <O:p</O:p
    Thanks Everyone
    Rodney and Alicia

You've probably alreadt been to Garlitz's Museum....The Blue Ridge Pkwy is something to drive/see. It makes the flatlands & cornfields boring!

One year for vacation Cherie and I did the entire perimeter of the state of Florida. Our objective was not only to see parts of FL we hadn't been to but to go to every lighthouse in the state. It was a great experience.

    I suggest

    Shades of the Past

It is the first weekend after Labor Day. It is in Pigeon Forge Tn.
Pigeon Forge Tn is very close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smokey Mountains. That way you get to see the beautiful mountains and a car show.

Lots to see and do. Cherokee NC is about a hour and a half from Pigeon Forge and has Harrahs Casino. Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tn are 5 miles apart. They are the very popular weekend get away desination for many folks in the SouthEast. It is also a
" WEDDING " capitol of sorts. Lots of folks get married there.

Here is the Pigeon Forge tourist board site.

To me the best rod run in the country is the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY. Nostalgia Drag Racing around the middle of June. Its also the site of the Corvette Museum. First week in August NSRA Nats Louisville, KY. As Deuce Roadster mentioned the Shades Of The Past the weekend after Labor Day in Pigeon Forge, TN has all kinds of action on the strip at night. Couldn't think of a better location then the Smokey Mts.

The GRM $20** challenge is typically in October in Florida. We went in 2004 and had a blast checking out the odd machines that show up. (500 cid Caddy powered BMW, mid-engined Batman theme VW van, etc.) One of the challenge cars from 2009? was also at the Jalopy Showdown last year.

The Garlits museum is less than an hour away, between the raceway and Disney.

Take a ride to Rossburg, Ohio to Eldora speedway. The first of September they have a dirt late model race called the World 100. Over 200 cars trying to make a 24 car field. If you like any kind of racing I promise you wont go home disappointed. Its some awesome racing.
