    Awesome news!!!

They steal the truck and trailer, clean it out and return the truck and trailer. We're all thinking they're obviously after the car (though the truck/trailer retun almost sounds like a bad joke on the owner by devious friends).
Now the police find the car dumped and think the thieves were after the truck/trailer?

I'm guessing they were after the car, but got cold feet after hearing the word was out bigtime on the HAMB, etc., panicked and dumped the car.

  10. #130 - 2X, this whole deal sounds fishy and weird.
Oh, yea, I am an insurance investigator...fire, fraud and mechanical failures.

It looks like they figured out that the car (and it's parts) was too well known and dumped it. One wonders why they took the truck and trailer back unless they had planned to steal a different truck and trailer.

I'll agree on one thing participants at these events need to collectively band together and arrange for their own security be it posting their own guards or hiring their own security.

  16. X2! Soooo great to hear the good news!!!!!So they dump the car unmolested in the bad part of town! There sits this killer hotrod in the middle of the badlands....even the baddest cat around has respect for the builders/owners of this fantastic rod an leave it to be recovered by the cops! That my friend is better than any trophy in ANY show! I say it is a prize like no other! You won your car back !!! jmho...R~R

  17. Great news! In response to homeland security checking every container , it is true, its only random spot checks. Since moving to Norway from Texas I've brought over 6 containers filled with just hotrods, cl***ics, bikes and parts for myself of friends. The ***les get checked by Customs and The shipping company Will verify The vin matches The car but they wouldnt have a clue if they were checking a '32 3 Window or a 29 Dodge 2dr sedan as long as whatever vin tag riveted to The firewall matches the ***le....NONE of my containers in 6 years have ever been opened and checked and they are labeled as hotrods-Harleys-etc etc...and every port is probably different...but in Bergen, you pay your import fee online after The shipping paperwork is cleared by Customs...and go unload your container...The authorities NEVER see what is inside....
And the US authorities nor shipping company have absolutely no cooperation With The importing country.....so yes, you could buy a ***le for a '29 Dodge, stamp a Ebay (or HAMB) bought generic vin tag, slap it on a stolen '32 ford, make a fake bill of sale for a '29 Dodge project car for $2500 ....import it and pay your fees for a $2500 Car and drive it out of The container...
    It Really is that easy....

Really glad to see a happy ending to this one, but this story really has some strange parts to it. Like who would take a chance on returning the pickup and trailer to the scene of the crime. Then they get a tip and find the coupe unmolested in a bad section of town. No one will ever probably know what was in the heads of those responsible, but there has to be an interesting story behind it.

  24. I am beginning to think that the only way to avoid vehicle theft is a shotgun. Glad you got your car back though.

I just got home from Indy and stayed at the Wyndham hotel where this happened. I had a friend that was coming in late thursday night so I went to ask the security guard about parking his truck and trailer later on that night, he said it would be no problem he would be there ALL NIGHT. I guess all night means he would be a sleep in the car. They should fire his sorry **** on the spot! Great news they found the car.

I hate to say this but sometime i wonder if the security guards at these hotels are there to guard or to let their friends know what has just pulled in the parking lot. Our friends lost their all steel willys a few years ago and they never found it. I am so glad that this car was returned to the owner in one piece. They are very lucky.

Great news! What I don't understand is, with the money that alot of people put into their cars, why do they not put in a GPS tracker automatically?

this is stupid, apperently at this point its obvious there is a hot rod theft ring going around. dont leave your **** un-attended! why the hell would you let a several hundred thousand dollar car out of your site like that. Especially without any kind of GPS tracking unit hidden inside of it....stupid. Glad he got it back but it should have never even happened in the first place.
