Hey all, I have a 292 inline 6 my dad gave me with the bell housing and clutch ***y. I am in need of a transmission for it and was told to use a Saginaw or a Muncie. I seen a few for sale in my area for around 200 bucks. Most without the shifter ***y. I am looking to put this motor in a 51 fleetline and want to have a tall shifter for this bad boy. What do you guys suggest on the ****** and shifting mechanism? I am new to this transmission stuff!! Thanks!

I got my saginaw 3 speed for $50, mr. gasket shifter works pretty good $60. The trans was a **** shoot but worked good so $200 for a trans known to be good sounds alright.

Put a T5 behind it. They're plenty available, bolt on easily, and shifters are available in a myriad of configurations. 5 gears is better too!

Go for a 5 spd, it's amazing what it will do for your car.......

If you go with a Saginaw, you will need to be sure you have the 'truck' snout, on the input shaft. Otherwise, you are locating the ****** with the mounting bolts.

depends on the size of the center hole in the bellhousing. If it is 5 1/8", then either change the bell to one with the 4 11/16" hole, or get an adapter ring for around $35 to take it down to 4 11/16".

There is only one suitable 4spd with the 5 1/8" bearing retainer, and that is from an early 80's chevy truck. The MY6 is a 3spd with OD and most had a unique bolt pattern, so getting the right bellhousing with that trans is necessary, unless you want to modify a "normal" one, but I doubt that's in the cards for this case...
