Please, no drama, no flaming, no Lokar vs. Jennie, no China bashing, etc.. I know it is American in name only. Just want to know if you are pleased with the choice. Thanks, js

I'd be interested in this also, a friend of mine has been talking about putting one in his truck and is slowly getting me interested in them also but I know nobody that has installed them yet.

Don't mean to hijack thread, but I seen that B&M has a "street rod shifter " anyone use these in place of the gennie or lokar? How do they compare?

Do they make their own shifters? They look an awful lot like a Lokar on the website.

I didn't ask you for your opinion and don't care what you think. I would prefer not to have this turn into another pissing match. I would like to hear from someone who have first hand experience with the product, not who sells it.

Jay, I read really well. I have a master's degree. Do you?

I merely linked a previous discussion thinking it might help some.

If someone has used one, I don't think they would admit it and take a chance of getting shit on for using china junk

Jay it looks like you started your own pissing match. For the most part, if it isn't made in the U.S.A., most of us probably won't have it in our rods. Buy it and if it's junk....oh well

I have a Gennie. They used to outsource some of the maching to a shop I was working at in Englewood, Colorado. They now do the maching inhouse in Denver, Colorado. Gennie doesn't rattle like a Lokar.

Maybe there are no HAMB members that have bought junk from that company. I got burned by them once. Never again.

  17. Jay, I have dealt with The Hoffman on other products and from my own personal experience I would look elsewhere and save yourself untold frustration. No drama just facts, they are not a parts group to deal with..............period. I know this didn't answer your question.............................. or did it?

WOW. THIS GUYS A DICK. if you wanna waste you money on crap. sure, buy 5. report back when you piece together one that functions from all the inferior parts you can scrounge up. either be the guinea pig and have the balls to buy one. or LISTEN like you have some sense, and avoid them.

I ordered mine and it showed up the other day. Looks pretty good, but have not installed it yet. As long as it does not rattle i am a happy camper. Will%20post some picks if you want, just need to get my camera to work.

Thanks. I look forward to your review.

  23. Don't give up Jay Ess. Someone will eventually tell you what you want to hear.

A whole page before this and another two-page thread with nothing good to say about them & you're still asking if you should buy one?!?!?!

So far all comments including yours were what I specifically asked not to hear in my original post.

"Please, no drama, no flaming, no Lokar vs. Jennie, no China bashing, etc.. I know it is American in name only. Just want to know if you are pleased with the choice."

Flaming and comments were about the vendor, not one was about the product, which is what I am interested in. I had difficulties getting my parts from JAMCO in a reasonable amount of time, but the parts were worth waiting for. Just looking for an informed, first hand opinion of the product, not who sells it.

    Thanks,
    js

  25. You seem to have missed the fact that "Who sells It" in this case is also "Who makes it". One and the same - American Shifter is a brand name within the Hoffman Group. No talking bad about anything just posting the facts about the product.

Yes I understand that. I also lived through the anti "JAP Crap" years of the 60s and 70s. I am not happy about it but unfortunately, it is the reality of the world we live in. If someone in the US made a shifter with the shift mechanism of the Gennie, and the mounting system of the Lokar (I know they make an adapter for the knob, no thanks) I would buy it even if it cost more. I am sure I am not alone with the idea of paying more to keep jobs here.

I saw one get unboxed yesterday, seemed like good quality. Had the NSS on it and stout (appearing) brackets. If I go by the shop later, I'll see how it is after install.

No, sorry. Haven't had time to stop in and check. If they are Hoffman, I'd just stay away.
I may get in there tomorrow.
