Stupid Theif award???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hans' Rod & Cycle, Sep 19, 2011.

  1. So my buddies shop got broken into last week and unknown to either of us was that my Business check book was stolen as well....Lucky for me , ans hopefully him as his tools got wiped out....the thief proceeded to try and cash a few checks written to himself at a check cashing place...AND put his fingerprint on the back of the check....THEN proceeded to PAY HIS UTILITY BILL with one of my checks!!!!! The bank caught the first wo checks by signature recognition with in 24hrs my money was returned...even before I knew it was gone...my checks say Hans' Rod & Cycle at the top and he signed with a big R and scribble...didn't know my name obviously.

But of course the cops say the checks are a different incdent than all my buddies tools getting stolen and NOT related....

It takes all kinds, thank god this thief wasn't real bright and he was caught. Hope your pal gets his tools back and that is resolved. As said prviously this will get worse before it gets better in our economic times. Good luck with all the rest of the mess. ~sololobo~

The cops say the check cashing and tool thievery are not related? WTF! If the check writer didn't steal the tools, he knows who did.

I would think the check cashing place would also have video survailance. EVERY other place in the world does these days, so they have to.

I would move up the food chain at the Police Dept. That is just goofy that they don't consider the two related. If he was pawning tools stolen wouldn't that be related?

Years ago I noticed my checking account was low, come to find out some chick pulled some receipts out of a garbage can and went on a weekend spending spree with my atm numbers. Stayed at a hotel, ordered Chinese food, pizza, etc...........spent $ 500. I tracked her down, gave a thick file to the local cops with name, address, everything. Nothing ever came of it.

Shoulda just tracked her down, then had a little heart-to-heart with the broad and explained to her, in a very persuasive manner, that her lifestyle choices were wrong and proceed to straighten her out...

Then tie her up, toss her in the trunk, and drive her 50 miles out of town and drop her off in the middle of nowhere...or a really BAD neighborhood!

OK, we can dream, can't we?

Thieves are sometimes really stupid. My wife had her wallet stolen about 11 AM with several credit cards in it. We immediately notified the credit card companies but figured the thief would be out buying plasma tv's and high dollar items. They waited until 6:30 PM to try and use the card at a Mac Donalds for $8.48.

Around here the theives will just go for jewelry. Its put into a cash for gold envelope and the mail before the cops even show up.Nation wide fenceing operation with the evidence melted down and the crooks with a check in hand within 72hrs.

  21. Yeah, I'm living/working in Norway at the time being so he takes care of alot of my busines over there as has the right to use and write checks. The cops say the checks are forgery and therefore are a totally different case than the robbery. They told him they could have stolen just the 3 checks...and they don't know if he has my actual checkbook in his possesion...and the fact that the checks were mine and I'm in Norway, but they want me to come down to Bryan *ucking Texas to fill out a police report before they will do anything. This guy is 29 yrs old and has a wrap sheet a mile long but they won't lift a finger. The crackheads are running the country....and as you say every day he has time to pawn or sell another tool...I have a few acres out side of town that i have a couple containers with parts and 15 or so parts cars/future projects(not in the containers)...when i was over last month for Bonneville I saw every single vehicle has had its radiator stolen out of it..even the drivers parked on the front fenceline for sale...and the containers had thier locks removed somehow.....not sure whats missing in the containers, but I put new locks and parked a C60 truck in front of the doors....at least I will make them work for it.

If your freind signs a statement that the checks were stoeln at the same time and place as the tools, that is one case of theft. The use of the checks is where the forgery comes to play, as well as the cirme of willfull intent to take goods or services without payment (which is what check fraud is) agaisnt whoever he writes the stolen checks to, that is then another crime. But the theft of the checks and tools has to be consdiered one case and they should investigate the guy kiting the checks as being the perpetrator on the original theft.

Sounds like the cops were related to one here in town. My daughter dropped her Droid phone at the local grocery store and it didn't get turned in. She came home and located it by GPS at a house in town. She went to the cops and gave them the address and the info on the phone. Nothing happened so I went to the cops the next day and the cop had the audacity to tell me that the phone wouldn't be at that house because it belonged to a "prominent" local citizen. He did make the call at the house at my instance though. About the same time she set off the phones alarm with her computer and a half hour later the store called and said that her phone had been turned in.

Very true you can't fix stupid. many problems though are not the cops fault. They have to check in with the on duty DA to see if he/she will make a case. In other words the cops catch a thief and prior to taking him in has to ask the DA if he will take it. Only in America--Houston we have a problem.

I,ve seen a few of these fools myself. As a Detective years ago with the Louisville,Ky police I had one fellow leave his own wallet in the home he had just broken into and another Holdup man rob a drugstore and after getting the money and drugs started shooting into the air in the store and then stuffed the 9mm gun down in the front of his pants and the weapon
went off and hit his "You no what"!!!!!!!!LOL. He then had the driver of the Holdup car drive him all the way to Nashville,Tn to be treated.I guess he may have taken all the drugs for pain !!!!

Don't let the cop tell ya you can't claim full replacement value on those tools! I had this happen to me when I was a mechanic cop told me the tools were "used" so he "guessed" the value of $3,000 of less than 6 month old Snap On Tools at $500 in his report,The guy got caught selling my tools (all engraved with the last 4#s of my SS#)some got reclaimed but most were gone! The crook got a slap on the wrist because of the low list amount (probation) I got paid $200 "res***ution" over the next 2 years!I still have 1 check uncashed for 79 cents he paid one week! After sentencing I found out that because I made my living with these tools I was en***led to full replacement value.
