Twin Blue Stewart Warner Gauges...

Looking through Classic instruments and I noticed there are similar. If they could change this orange to the twin blue color.



Or they could use the All-American series as a base as well.

I ran a 6 cylinder tach on an 8 once. All I could afford and wanted to be lookin cool with my tach on the dash. Talk about some crazy readings. My soon to be father in law, gawd rest his soul hooked his dwell tach up to the engine and we marked the glass with a majic marker. Just lines that me and the missus knew what they ment and everyone else thought they were shif points.

If you go mechanical somehow and calibrate it so that 50 is actually 100 you can figure out about how fast you are going and no one will be the wiser.

At least your gauges match. I don't think I'll even put a speedo in my cutrrent project, well maybe when I get older it'll have a speedo in it when I go to the beach.

Most of my gauges are SW black face, if I go mechanical I have an old black face tach but if I go electric all I have is an SW green line. The only speedo I got is huge from a very old chassis dyno. its cool but it takes up a lot of realestate.

You guys with these blue gauges have got it in spades as far as i'm concerned.

OH BTW I think classis instruments make those colored gauges in several different colors.

 

I didn't mean to be rainy, I was just hoping to prevent frustration. I'm speaking from experience, having bought a twin blue boat speedo on Ebay only to find out later it's a different size and doesn't match my mechanical tach. But I did know the pitot tube would be hard to hook up.

Well guys, I decided to go with one of Classic Instruments Electronic programmable Speedos custom made to match my NOS Twin Blue Tach.Cost... $814! Yeah I'm insane...

 

WOW! I just got a quote of $800-$1200 to convert my marine speedo to an auto speedo!!! I just want them to take the face on my marine speedo and put it in a auto speedo housing. I can understand they may have a corner on the market but come on $1000, really!!?????

I think that when you call a company like that they automatically think you are a high roller.

 

Yeah, that what I'm thinking PnB. I think they have mistook me for somebody else. I am thinking about tackling it myself. I have never opened up a gauge so I wouldn't know where to start but I think I will give it a try. I can't see spending that kind of money on one single gauge.

I assume thats the original tach on the left? Not a bad match, as long as you are happy with it, is all that matters. How much did they get you for that, if you don't mind me asking?

Yeah thats the stock Tach..Exactly what I was quoted...My wife nearly fainted when she found out the cost..oh well...lol

 

LOL, how long you been married??? When I first was married I always tried hard not to let her find out how much I was spending. Now I am at the point in the marriage where I don't care anymore, lol

 

4 years married over 5 years together.She knows how it works, her ex husband of almost 20 years was a car guy too.

 

I dig it, but not sure whether I have any real use for the tach really!

 

Yeah most of the Twin Blue Tachs are for Boats

 

I ended up with this 5k mechanical tach a month or so ago.

and ive had 2 amps gauges, 2 full sweep oil psi units, 1 half sweep oil psi, 1 oil temp and 1 vacuum guage for a while, been looking for a water temp and fuel gauges for a while.

 

I have a 6 grand electric tach I am going to be selling in the very near future (prob ebay in next 2 days) if anyone is interested. It looks pretty nice, not NOS but nice.

I've read this thread with interest. It made me look at a couple of old tach that I kept from high school and college days. What I would like to know is the SW properly called a "Twin Blue" tach?


I haven't used these for years so I will probably sell them.

 

Anyone have input on the SW gauge above being a Twin Blue or not?

 

One on left is generally considered to be a "twin blue" but one on right no.

 

Yes the one on the left is a Twin Blue like I have in my 34.

 

I've never seen any of these before! They are pretty damn cool lookin'!!

 

Looks great...never did like the way the gauges were arranged before you re-did it.
