Rick was a big part of Eagle Field running the races, but more importantly a good friend. I have said my prayers for the Family and have some comfort knowing Rick was doing what he loved. Selfish of me but fortunately Ricks son Ridge was not navigating with him today, as he normally does. God Speed my friend, you will be missed, God Speed. Rocky

Always hate to hear this stuff. One of the real problems of getting older is losing more and more friends all the time, but a tragic situation that hits when least expected is more than a double blow. So sorry.

Prayers for family family and friends as they struggle through the loss.

Terrible tragedy for the family. The newspaper said they were approaching 200 MPH in the Camaro when a tire blew, causing multiple roll overs and then catching fire. That is one of the realities and risks of Open Road racing like this. There are no guard rails and no run off areas when something goes wrong. It's a risk racers know and take and the only comfort is knowing that they died aware of the risks and doing something they truly loved to do.

It's an Open Road Race in Nevada. In other words on a regular road that is closed to the public for the race . Here is a link http://www.sscc.us/

Sorry to hear that. It's a timed race on a section of Nevada Highway The Shadow. It's been run for several years and they usually start the fastest car first and work down though the list. It's not unusual for someone to have a car entered that will do 200+ on the straights.

As do several of the HAMB members that use the site, my son and I do some top-speed racing..it's always with a heavy heart that I read of tragedys like this.
As speed goes up, so does the danger...Rocky
