so I've got this aluminum hinge, it fits perfect up on the header, both of them have a ncie little curve where they sit together. The hinge sticks outside the header area, the frame has the seals installed and it fits tight up against the cra when closed, etc. Only problem is the frame is 1/4" off- the reason I had to cut the windshield 1/4" So, how the heck does the rubber seal: fit between the header and the hinge? The only way I can get it, is to have the flattest part of the seal covering the curved ridge (the one that fits up to the header), with the first bead of the seal laying in the groove next to the hinge where the windshield hangs, and the seocnd rounder rubber bead hanging OVER the top of the hinge where the frame hangs. Not sure its supposed to stick so far out, but any other way I can't get it to sit up flush. Anybody have pics of the aftermarket rubber seal fitted on there 1928/29 Model A's? I'm about to just buy another strip of the seal that goes around the edges of the frame, and lay the bead on that in the groove on the hinge and set it right up on the header, seems to fit much better I attached a crude side view drawing of what it would look like if I tried to use the seal how I described- quite lame in other words, and with so much of the rubber hanging out it defeats the purpose of a seal Do I not have the higne far enough inside the window cutout in the body? My old hinge sat out exactly that far, cause I was able to pull the windshield frame out by tilting it up and pulling it off sideways, and my new one looks to be in the exact same spot. Seems pretty tight now, and the hinge looks exactly like my old one, holes in the same spot? The old seal looked nothing like this repro one, so I don't even know if I'm going to use it
I installed my windshield frame with a thin bead of silicon between the header and the windshield hinge. The rubber seal did not seem to fit right. Maybe it has something to do with the aluminum frames.
could be the repro frame- I'll try and fit that new seal up to the old hinge tonight, they looked identical, a very good repro in my opinion You never know though. I need some sort of spacer though since my frame is a 1/4" short, maybe I'll do that on the bottom.
I also needed an extra1/4" on top of my frame. I went to the hardware store and bought a 2tick of 1/8" thick x 3/4" wide aluminum. I cut it in half, doubled it up and drilled it as a spacer between the header and the windshield hinge. I needed it because the hinge was hitting the header and would not allow the w/s frame to close square against the car. It all fits nice with this space. You cann not see it inside or out.
1930 Tudor. I need a picture of how the rubber seal goes on top of the hinge. Anyone ever dig a pic up? Anyway I try it, it looks like crap and seems like it would actually catch water. As this is a very old post I'll include my email address for a easier check on this. Thanks for any pictues, also is there a better way of doing this? boothr2001@yahoo.com
