Hey guys, just thought I would share these cool finds I came across. I have been helping a neighbor clear out her grandparents house. They lived there since the late 20's and her dad was born there and he's 83! Anyway, its been a ton of work but I have found so many neat Off topic treasures already! I scored some WW2 goggles and a summer flight helmet, and tons of other cool stuff. This last time I found a little 20's CG conn saxophone! She told me that I could have cart blanche to the garage. He grandpa supposedly had a '32 ford back in the day (long gone). I saw another pic of him with an old cadillac also. SO needless to say I have been anxious to start digging. Here's a few things I found last night. Gonna go again saturday in the daytime.
the patent date on the cadillac jack is 1923! I also grabbed the radio too. Ill run it when I finally build my 40's custom. also found the box of NOS lowering blocks, looks from the early 50;s. and some misc. license frames, and some old tire irons.
I like the old no peddlers, agents or solicitors sign. I've been looking for one for my front door. and that jack is cool!
yeah, that one is going in the garage. I also found a cool old wooden "keep out" sign. The dad or uncle must have made it in wood shop cl***
Looks like some neat old stuff. The Cadillac jack is from the early thirties. Have fun mining through the relics! ---John
Cool Find. Just found a few old Plates that I thought I had lost when I was going through my Garage. A pair from '32 and '40. Also a late 50's Desoto FSM and a 57-8-9? Chrysler FSM.
Thanks for sharing the cleanout. I always enjoy seeing stuff like that, you can learn a lot about people and the life they lead, going through a find like that. Very rare today to get to see a household collection that is that old. Bob
i went yesterday and scored a few more goodies. anyone know what these fit? They are real straight/original paint! I thought merc or lincoln at first because of the flare, but they look different. I think Im gonna keep that jack for my model A roadster! it works pretty good and its nice and small too
Even if you would just paint some stripes on it and put it in your living room, those things have a soul that no ****py plasticjack these days will ever have. Beautiful form and since in 1920ies they could not "estimate" how long it will last, they build that stuff for eternity, the best way they could. There is not much like period stuff in your car. I found an old suitcase from 1960ies with loads of stickers on, put a ghettoblaster in it and drive around with that in my Cadillac. No new wires, no flying CDs, no ****py "new" items in my car. Same goes for tons of other stuff. In my daily car, that is from 1977, I have a Casettebox that fits a MP3 Player and the antenna so I can listen to Misfits and other **** thru the original Radio, and have no white blinking thing lying around.
Oh man..when I die..you are gonna find more cameras than anyone could ever use in a lifetime... cool stuff. Thanks for sharing. Spike
I love those thermomter wing mirrors... very cool... or warm... depending! Tried to buy one a while back on Ebay but the guy wouldnt ship abroad bah!
here's a pic.. anyone have any info? came with this helmet too. ww2 navy? found another cool oil can this weekend too.
Nice goggles I've got a pair just like 'em they were used by Mountain troops - ski goggles. I think the helmet is as you say US Navy. Fire control crews on destroyers and carriers wore them for sure. Nice
Can anyone ID those goggles? Theyre pretty neat.. they have cloth sides, and green gl*** lenses. Ive never seen that style, but theyre definitely old. also found these pretty neat herringbone coveralls! and this old 49 license plate tag. Maybe ill keep it for when I finally get a teardrop trailer
