I recently posted a shot of my T mod on a thread about "whatcha drivin' to Paso" and a few days later recieved a PM from a guy saying, "Hey, I built your car." I was like, this isn't the guy I bought it from (see I said that 'cause the dude I bought it from said he built it ...whatever) So he Emails me with a bunch of info and calls and turns out he lives but a mile or so from my house! It was cool to hear what the real deal on the car was. Ok, so it aint from the 50's or 60's... he started it in '84 and finished in '93. (long story) He did most of the fabrication and I found out the frame was from a '28 PU that once ran at Bonneville (cool!) and Gray Baskerville himself wrote a little article on it after seeing it at the LA Roadster show a while back (cool!) Anyway I plan on running it by in the next few days so he can see it. Just though it was a cool thing. Oh and Dave, if your readin' this, i promise I'll bring it by before Paso...! It also got me thinkin'..Why do people say they built somethin' if they didn't? Any thoughts? Anyway...Here's a few links to the cars past... http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/52859/ http://www.hopupmag.com/apr99-1.html and pictures of now.
After seeing pics of that baby, I'd be tempted to take credit for building it! Seriously, I think some people will take credit for anything if they think they're impressing the people they're talking to. Everyone who has a nice old car at a show or the gas station gets caught by that guy who shovels out the bullshit, talking about all the things he/she is going to do to their car. I think this guy is the same way, just he had a finished car so he claimed to have done all the work. Same old bullshitter, just something new to lie about. Sweet machine, I don't think I've ever seen a sectioned Deuce grille fit on a T better than that. I need to get the tires on my '26 and drive it now, thanks for the inspiration.
That's the same car? That article was one of the main reasons I built my T-bucket! I have read it so many times, I can quote it from memory! Congrats, Karl
Yeah Dave (builder of the t) is a cool guy. I bought his 29 rpu and it came with all the cool goodies. Tell Dave, Wayne said Hi!
My experience with "I built this car" is really I put new tires on it or changed the carb or payed someone to build it. With the exception of HAMBers who are the worlds largest congregation of od it yourselfers. The car is really sweet and it ads credence to what I've been saying right along. nothing on the HAMB ever really gets sold it just rotates from one HAMBer to another. in your case it drew you in.
Didnt that belong to FoMoCoMoFo here on the Hamb?? I am going to dig up pics because that looks exactly like it. see what I mean -
Yep, That's the car...He's a cool dude. I think he might have been refering to the color change, the addition of the wire wheels and front track tires (which I dig) when he said he built it...
That's cool! Unless I'm completely F%#$@ed up, that's the same car. i mean the exhaust is different, the steering wheel, tires, color and that's about it...oh and the windshield is taller. i could be wrong...
