In the late '40s to mid '50s Ford made special order Rangers. You could buy a panel truck the dealer would send it out to Seibert body, which did ambulance and other special bodied cars, to have window installed and then they were sent to Marmon-Herrington for 4X4 conversions.

Rangers are pretty rare. I know of a few. Chuck of Chuck's Trucks in CT has a really nice '48. I don't know if he's a member here, he's the expert on M-H and Rangers.

There's also a guy in MI that has a '52:

Another member, truckdog, has another '51/52 that's needs to be restored. He knows a lot more than I do, maybe he'll see this thread and post.

Not traditional at all...used to be the Tri-cities old paddy wagon. Windows are dated 57 and it doesn't have a stock Ford VIN tag...

  14. That's NICE Clark! You should make badges saying: Coatchbuilt by Clark! I guess that will be Clarkbuilt! Right?

There was a nice conversion done by a fella named John Good (I think) made himself a 1948 Ford Explorer. Was in a car mag a couple years ago. I did a google search for pics, came up empty.

My daily driver, I love it. I've had it 6 years, use it for work, shopping taking the Grandkids camping, I took the rear seats out and picked up a Willys chassis from the docks [hung out the back a bit ] most usefull vehicle going

Best daily driver, all purpose vehicle we have owned. The newer stuff gets parked and we haul the slobbering hounds in the Burb to cruises, camping etc. I get 20 mpg on my 75 mile round trip work day with my newer crew cab chevy lowrider, but 12 mpg and the Burb see the work parking lot more often!

Your info is correct and I found this thread looking for pics.

I remember seeing it up for sale awhile back.

You can see it (barely) on the cover here of the September 2000 Street Rodder.

  22. Here's one I photographed in upstate New York when I was returning home to Michigan from Massachusetts and took a wrong turn. It wasn't for sale(sadly) but was so unique I had to take a pic of it. That isn't photoshop;there are FIVE doors on each side! Would have loved to bought it. 1960sInternationalAirportLimo.jpg

The Jeepster Commandos kinda fit into this category. This body style was made form 67-70 and then AMC took over and the change slightly for 71/72. These were actually made by Kaiser and they have the 225ci odd-fire Buick V6 for power. Here is a pic of mine when I picked it up.

Google Bruce Canepa F1 Ford Ranger for pics of his incredible Marmon-Harrington example.
