Thasnks for giving me a laugh, Butch & Ron. My mom passed on at nearly 85, and I guess my fuse got in a knot. Sorry to the always-gentlemanly ehdubya in particular.

It is just possible that one of those 'Connie's' has made it's way over here to Australia in the from of a trophy.
When I was a young'un in school I was also in 'Air Cadets', every year we had a country wide drill competition.
Flag drill was considered the 'highest' form of the comp. I was in my Sqn. flag drill party, carrying the Australian National Flag, some how we won it one year:eek:, that and the 'Grand Aggregate' (IE, best Squadron in the comp). One of the trophies was a large 'Connie' in TAA markings that looks very, very much like the models posted.

I've always admired those who have entertained our troops. Until I read this, I had no idea how much she had done, nor that she was an honorary Colonel in the Marines and an honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army.

Two acres of MOUTH between them and with hearts just as big:), Martha Raye and Joe E. Brown were inexhaustible when it
came to traveling to far flung theaters of war to bring joy to homesick troops:eek:. After Brown's flyer son Don was killed, he
took hot-zone assignments that were too dangerous for many other entertainers. Here the two ham it up in an impromptu big-
mouth contest at the annual ball of the Screen Actors' Guild, February '37. For my money, Martha and Joe were two of
the best when it came to mugging and "takes" (the double-take, another comedic device). Photo thanks to simsajoyeros.

WWII-era bombshell starred in the musical-comedy film fantasy,
"Pin Up Girl," along with popular Martha Raye and Joe E. Brown
who often appeared together :D in movies and on radio. Below,
obviously, leggy Grable was in big demand to front for various
products of the day. BTW, collectors: Most of these posters and
ads are available on eBay, either as pricey originals or as afford-
    able repros.
