I plan on replacing the trans and rear then restoring all the cosmetics to stock. I'm going to upgrade the brakes also.
My first mod is the ford 9 inch, I'm going to use ridetech's triangulated 4 link. I pulled a 9 inch out of a 78 bronco and I need some advise if it'll fit as as. I've attached a picture of it also. The stock rear is 61 1/2 inches from mounting surface to mounting surface. The bronco is 65 1/4 inches. It's about 1 1/2 inches longer on each side. What i need to know is will this rear be to wide and should I use studs or bolts to hold the wheel on.
Thanks and I can't wait to get this thing on the road.

    I'd say it's too wide.

What you should do is put the tire back on and see what clearance you have at the wheel lip up top. That's if you will use stock type wheels again.

If you plan on a wider wheel or some mag wheel, then I am sure it will be too wide.

I plan on doing a wider larger wheel. I'm not sure if i'm going with a 50's style or more modern yet. I haven't found anything I really like yet.

I think your going to find that that you will have to narrow the ford diff to fit unless you can find a front wheel drive wheel that you like. Some of them have a lot of back spacing because the wheel actually goes over the hub. I think the narrowist stock unit is in the old granada ford line. Also if you can locate the lincoln versalles edition they had rear disc brakes. By the way what drive train did you decide to go with? I have been trying to keep up with your build as I am doing a similar one.

I don't think you will be able to get a big tire into the wheel well with that wide a rear end. If I remember correctly, with the stock rear end there was not much clearance if you used bigger then stock tires.

If you still have the original rear end mounted try some spacers to adjust the wheels out to the new width and set it down. I tested my 48' that way before picking up a 9" for mine. It was a 78' Lincoln 9" that I am using with 68' Chev truck training arms.
    Good luck with ride...Love them Buick's !!!!!
