  3. I really like both of these. I like the one you posted, Slick A&T, because it has just a little bit of custom, but you can tell its a full out hot rod. The thing looks fast.

I really like the one you posted, Smarg, because that this is just bitching man. I dig it! :D

  4. What I really like about this thread is that you guys have found some really great examples of Hot Rod Shoebox Fords. I enjoy the fact that some of these cars are all stock and fast. Love that. I also enjoy the fact that some of the cars have slight custom touches and are still fast.

I was reading a blog about these Fords the other night. In this blog, it pointed out that the Shoebox Ford was the original shoebox, and it held that title until 1955 when Chevy took the title and ran with it.

When I think about the old Hot Rod Shoebox Fords, I think about the way the cars looked in American Graffiti. They weren't dramatically customized. Don't get me wrong. Customs are cool, but what was the original reason why we feel in love with the Shoebox Ford? It just looked cool.

Its like falling in love with your wife, living with her for forty years, and forgetting why you even got with her. Its not until you find an old picture of what she looked like when she was young that you remember why you fell in love with her in the first place. That's something to be proud of. That's how I feel about these Fords.

Sorry man, some of us fell in love with the shoebox because we can't afford to pay the tab for a Mercury. :D

  6. Hahaha! That's exactly why I bought mine! Two weeks after I bought it, a Mercury came up for sale for close to what I paid for my Shoebox. Oh well. I wouldn't change anything now.

I like most of the ones slick a&t posted but this one is living proof that you can shine em up and run em with mucho respect.

    I really like this.

It's so practical, driveable. Very nice to see, refreshing in a way.

I love these shoeboxes slammed too, but this car looks good at a very practical ride height.

  10. I like this one mainly because of the '55 Chevy headlight brows. This was a major custom trick back in the '50's. If you didn't want your headlights frenched, why not brow it? Doesn't sound as cool, but damn it sure looks good! Whoever did it to this one was an artist. Looks perfect. It gives the shoebox Ford a real subtle aggressive look. I love it! :D

Not very hot roddy OR very custom; just a slightly tweaked late '50s style driver. It IS fast, though:

Thanks bro! I came across this thread when I was looking at this one:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=620684&page=8

I saw this thread and was going to chime in with a pic of my car, but you beat me to it..

To the OP this is gotta be one of my favorite threads on the HAMB, love it, let's keep it going with some more pics of my car throughout the years and one of a couple other "Hot Rodded Shoebox Fords" and a strange '54 with a "55 Chevy front end...

I have some more period pics of Hot Rod inspired Shoeboxes but I just can't find them right now... Will have to look.

When I first saw this car years ago, I fell in love with the stance. One of those cars I don't get tired of looking at, nice lookin powerplant as well.

I don't recall the paint code, but the color is Polo Green, and was used on Cadillacs in the 1990s.

As a guy working on a 50' right now this thread is officially awesome! I'm still doing basic resto work and this has given me a few ideas what I'd like to do when I start customizing.
