Looking for machine shop in the Portland Or, area that does line boring. Does any one have a recommendation? OT, After being down for a year and half feels good to be able to work on the old gal, even if I have to use a walker. You should see people stair and Doc rubs her head! It can only kill me once!
Well Danny passed on so I can't help you much but maybe someone knows where to direct you. Danny was an ace.
Are you quite certain you need line " boring" ? Sadly the term is very often misused and misunderstood as well as the term line " honing ". What exactly are you doing.
Need the crank line bored.(main caps cut down then bored so crank saddles are in a true line.) With only four mains and running a tubro I need to know I have done my best to keep her together. Other mods: cross drill crank, resize rods, cut wider and deeper grove in main bearings, resurface the deck and intake exhaust side of block, resurface head, add oiling to timing chain (earlier block design), add full flow filter. Many other mods going into this block. When I used to play with flathead mopars in my younger days there was more than one that the crank was to tight from the saddles being out. In those days we just went down a hill and pop clutch, instant fix. Lucky no one told me this was not good, as I know better today money well spent. Thanks Camm, I will check him out. Ed.
Sir, you are not line boring the crank- you are line boring the " main housing bores ", and thank you, but I know the procedure. I have been doing BOTH in my Race Shop for over 30 years. You and what ever machinist? obviously know all you need to know. Please by all means, line bore it. I have a certified bank check for $50,000, when you and your machinist can show me you can line " bore " and keep the housing bore's within .0001" for size, out-of-round- and taper. I was trying to help you, nothing else, best of luck, TR
Eastco Machine in Gresham - they grind most of the crankshafts for most of the machine shops in Portland and Vancouver and surrounding areas. They are a full service automotive machine shop and do everything except cams. Craig Bloom is your guy . . . Eastco Machine (503) 666-6288 1850 NW Burnside Road Gresham, OR I just had him go through my 270 GMC block after breaking a crankshaft - he was thorough, did great work and was reasonable . . . I couldn't be happier.
