I got out my books today and decided to make sure everything checks out with my 63 fairlane 500. things were looking good until i came upon an error or something on the warranty tag on the drivers door. The "axle" portion is left blank, the trans portion has a code of 3 (space) 3. I thought hat it was a mistake and the 3 code was meant as the axle code. I researched it and there is no "3" in the decode. there is a "3" in the trans portion. it lists as a 2 speed auto trans.(which i have). Anyone out there that could perhaps enlighten me to this situation. Why is my axle blank? why is there a "3 3" code under the trans? What does it all mean?
Yep, your trans code checks out but the axle code is odd. Could that offset 3 for the axle code be a mis-stamped B? If so that would be a locking 2:83 gear ratio in a 63 Fairlane.

w2zero, interesting indeed. suppose the only thing to do is opener up and count. a locker would be cool. hot40rod, yup thats the same info i have. intriguing situation i have. thanx for the info.
Before you go that far check and see if there is a tag under one of the nuts holding the center section in. That tag with have the ratio and if a equa lock rear on it.
