Picked up a 279 with the bellhousing out of an old truck for cheap. Is this thing usable or do I call the s**** guy? Are parts available? What ****** can I use? Is anyone here currently running one of these motors?
    Thanks,
    Rick

The two and a half ton Ford trucks got a 279 cu in (4.6 L) version of the 317 motor.

Yup! Fire Engine. It's like the 368 Lincoln's smaller, weirder, less popular brother.

**** makes a 408 cube stroker for it. You can build one of these pretty hot and not have a" belly ****on motor". All totaled run you about $4 grand.
They are bigger and hefty though, bigger by a bunch than a Y block. I ain't saying they are bad engines, but you can get more power for less money in other places.
Same engine as an early OHV Lincoln just with less displacement.

Hey 59 what did you ever do with that 279? Did it have a 5speed or a 5 speed overdrive behind it?
